>write short stories

Tell a friend you'll give him $250 every month that you don't finish your intended page-count at a predetermined size and spacing. Send him your output so he can word-count it and make sure that it's not just previous months' work stitched together to look new. If you don't meet your yearly goal, you owe him $2000. If you hate your novel, you can revise it after that year or start anew with what you've learned
Read more. Write more. If you're having trouble finding your voice focus more on writing like you're just talking to someone. I believe in you, anon, I'm trying my best also.
Read a hundred literary classics and then simply start writing out anything you think of, stream of consciousness style. Then take the ideas you like and mash them into some semblance of a rough draft. Then, work backwards and refine it with symbolism and connect threads throughout, then write a second draft. Then another and another until you like it.
