I'm thinking about writing a short sci-fi story about bitcoin mining and my character created an amazing algorithm to optimize mining but I can't seem to have ideas for the algorithm. Could someone help me?
You shouldn't write about topics you are not knowledgeable on.
Somebody with a doctorate in it will inevitably crawl out of the woodwork to personally call you stupid in public.

You know you don't have to come up with the algorithm itself, right? Just bullshit with technojargon. You're writing a story, not an academic paper.
If you can't even bullshit with technojargon, then you need to do more research else it'll just be NCIS-tier

It's just for fun so I won't go into details

I think that's what I'll do, I'll use really stuff as inspiration

Do what they did in Sneakers and have a McGuffin. Your guy doesn't need to make it or understand it, he can acquire the thing that does the thing.
Or you can simply make it clear that details would fail to make sense or be otherwise dangerous or inconvenient. Or you can do the whole "microwave and non dairy creamer" bit (nobody knows how they work and so anything can happen).

What exactly do you want from us, then?

Another algorithm sounds stupid regarding Bitcoin. It's defined. Read about the tech before you write about it.
Maybe your character has developed a quantum computer and thus is able to mine more coins than the competitors. Everyone wonders why your mining is so successful. Could make an inetresting thriller actually.
