Anybody else have this problem? I was considering taking notes but doing this for fiction you're meant to enjoy just seems wrong.

Yes. But fiction is meant to be enjoyed, not necessarily remembered. Re-reading books after a few years is good practice, you'll notice different things and you'll be different yourself

I do have this problem. The only time I really care is when I discuss the book later and have an opinion formed on a handful of passages that stuck out to me when I read it, but then someone references one I forgot about, and my whole outlook on the book seems incomplete.
I do enjoy rereading books from a long time ago though, so I don't mind too much.
