That's the wedding of Richard Fariña and Mimi Baez, young sister of the singer Joan. Fariña was a friend of Pynchon during their time at Cornell, and he was best man at the wedding.
Unless he stepped out of frame (which I think is very possible) I bet he's the dude with the white guy afro behind the old man in white. Pynchon's description of Doc Sportello's hair routine suggested personal experience, but obviously nobody does research better than Pinecone.

I don't think Pynchon and Mimi were close enough outside of the Farina connection for him to be invited to this relatively small ceremony in 1968. He hadn't even been in touch with Dick for a while before he died, plus Pynchon was on the East coast at the time and Mimi on the West coast

Beside, do you really think your book knowledge wiil get her wet for you? The only good tip I have to give you is have a lot of friends (this shows social value) and get fit/groom/dress well (this shows you take care of yourself.) Only take up hobbies if it complements you in a fundamental way.
