so now that you've read the first page of mason and dixon why don't you go finish it.
>>
I'm tired ruggy I got to 357 today. I'll keep going tomorrow
>>
is this where the capitalization meme comes from
>>
>>8008057
Nouns should always be capitalized. Any real Stylist knows this from Experience.
>>
>>8008152
>Nouns should always be capitalized

Then why aren't they all capitalized, Mr. 4chan Stylist?

>>
>>8008161
Did you backtrace it?
>>
What is this Faulkner fanfic?
>>
>>8008023
this is really discouraging for me.
>>
>>8008240
why?
>>
>>8008242
cause i want to be a good writer, and at times i feel like it could happen, and then i read this and realize how shit i am.

>>

i think i literally wouldn't be able to.
>>

You'd be really great at advertising Ruggles.
>>
utterly terrible
>>
Yuck. I may never read Pynchon now.
>>
you're the guy with the cat who doesn't like the sound and the fury, right?
>>
>>8008023
i am terribly intimidated by lengthy novels. that being said, pynchon in his prime would have to be my favorite author.
>>
Anyone ever notice how crazies capitalized random words?
>>
>>8008483
Fucking idiot.
>>
>>8008244
But it's not that great. It's style and erudition wankery, is what it is.
>>
>>8008158
That would be gauche
>>
>>8008023
I'm so lukewarm about pynchy's style
>>
>>8008023
it's pretty boring tho
is it the same all the way through?
>>
mason and dixon makes the rest of pynchons books look like shit. even gravity's rainbow. yeah I said it. M&D is a much better story.
>>
>>8008935
THIS shite is the best that the Pinecone has to offer? Jesus. /lit/ confirmed for terrible taste.
>>
>>8008345
how many tears came out of your eyes when masons son said that thing about "your mate" at the end.
>>
>>8009014
Mason's sons telling him they'd go on to have adventures for him made me legitimately cry for the first time in years.
>>
>>8008152
Only proper nouns should be capitalised: capitalising abstract and concrete nouns isn't necessary.
>>
>>8009046
oh man I actually thought that was happy. that part made me smile. the last transit was so good. can't stop thinking about that book. I wasn't sure I liked it that much until the end. now I love it. weird.
>>
Does the rest of the novel average one period per page?
>>
English is my third language and this is just too much for me. Looks like french to me
>>
>>8009071
>third language
how did you do it?
>>
>>8008023
>...proceed, as upon each afternoon all this snowy Advent, to a comfortable Room at the rear of the House, years since given over to their carefree Assaults.

Its fucking perfect.
>>
>>8009092
Born in one country, moved to another and learned english because... well, everything is in english.
I've read V. and C lot 49 but M&D is just too weird.

i don't think i'll even be book enough for this shit
>>
>>8008023
seems like a knock-off joyce
>>
>>8008023
I've started the first page 5 or 6 times, I don't know about this book.
>>
>>8011014
Do it.
>>
>>8009279
Al menos sabe mas lenguajes que tu, marica.
>>
I did and the first page was the only good one.
>>
>>8011023
I've read IJ, The Savage Detectives, GR and I'm 1/4 through The Recognitions, but Mason & Dixon is obscene. Eventually I'll read it
>>
>>8009112
How was reading V. in a second language?
>>
>>8011044
I'm about a tenth through The Recognitions. It's unbelievably dense. It's also unbelievably beautiful.
>>
>>8011103
It's not as difficult as some Pynchon, but i feel much more fulfilled. Pynchon got the name Inherent Vice from this novel.
>>
>>8011126
I take it you're talking about M&D? I also remember Against the Day coming up a few times.
>>
>>8011533
We were talking about The Regonitions by W. Gaddis. He was one of Pynchon's influences and one of the founders of pomo lit. Pynchon's Inherent Vice is named such because of the repetition of that in The Recognitions.
>>
>>8008023
because its unmitigated trash
>>
>>8009048
shut up, Idiot
>>
>>8008023
Make me!
>>
>>8011594
I have yet to come across that in Recognitions. I know the phrase appears at least once in M&D.

Anyway, this is my first Gaddis and although it's hard, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

How would you rate the Savage Detectives in comparison to the rest of the books you listed? I'm planning BolaƱo or McCarthy next.
>>
>>8011103
Not to discourage you, but the first 100 pages or so is the best thing put to paper ever (well, not really, but it's goddamn perfect).
The rest is not AS god, but it's still amazing.
>>
>>8008023
Sure thing. Post the pages, OP.
>>
>>8008691
K Y S
>>
>>8012380
The Savage Detectives was disappointing, I'm hoping 2666 is better.
>>
>>8011594
At first I read "one of the founders of porno lit.".
I don't want books no more, /lit/, I need to get laid.
