because he gets too caught up in the technobabble of whatever it is he's writing about at the expense of plot and character, Snow crash was awesome but I found Crypto and Seveneves to get bogged down in things he may as well have ctrl c + ctrl v'd from a tech manual. I haven't done the Baroque Cycle (yet) but I think he's too wonky at times. Funny as hell, though.
