Why does so much important shit happen off-screen in Shakespeare's plays? Like, people would be pissed if shit like that happened today. Half the time, the climax is just being told by somebody else and not actually shown. Shakespeare breaks the show don't tell rule all the time.
He wrote the plays high when he was on weed.
cause show and dont tell is autistically overgeneralized advice designed for genre writers
and shakespeare is for poetics not for plot.

also he had limited actors who would double/triple roles and not everyone could be on stage at the same time so some shit had to happen off stage.

1. Shakespeare was a writer who focused more on the characters and on their internal conflict rather than outer events.
2. It's been a tradition since ancient Greece to have some things repoted because a) some things are just better left described and b) they didn't have high quality scecial effects hundreds of years ago so of course they gotta just describe things to you it's just a few guys on a stage ffa
3. Sometime in his later career he and his acting bros moved to a smaller theater so they couldn't even do sword fight scenes cuz the stage was too small, so they just had to have a character talk about it afterwards.
