Where to start with Lovecraft? Are his books worth reading at all? Looking for stuff to read while high, from what I've heard Lovecraft seems fitting.

Call of Cthulu is his most famous story. In the Walls of Eryx is my personal favorite. Also good are Horror in the Museum and the Music of Erich Zann. Actually everything is good desu senpai.

People will mention the popular stories like Call Of Cthulhu and Mountains of Madness. These are good, but challenging reads.
If you are high then The Doom That Came To Sarnath would be a recommended read at approx ten pages. So would many of his shorter stories of the same length. I am also fond of The Nameless City.
These both have my favourite Lovecraftian thing - prehistoric, pre-human races.

Definitely check this out if you want to end up a government watchlist.
He's an awful writer who piles adjective on adjective; the most purple of prose. Interestingly, he's like Poe in that the French translations are better than the actual native English works.

Any translation is better than the english.
It might be because english is a simple language, and has less synonyms,so a translation allows for a more varied vocabulary.
You can't just stop at Lovecraft. His legacy has been formed by a few different authors who contributed to the Cthulhu Mythos.
