Just so everyone knows, they didn't redesign the library. The glass one is across campus from the old one. It's attached to a larger brutalist library.

Also the glass one is super loud/glaring. So there's that.
>>
>>7978904
but the old one didnt have any books in it either
>>
>>7978908
I noticed that too and thought maybe they moved the books to >>7978303 (which looks like it could be an Apple store).
>>
>>7978904

Well that's good at least

> brutalist

Let me guess, it's "brutalist" but it has little to no vegetation

The entire point of brutalism was for the harsh-looking buildings to contrast with copious amounts of vegetation and foliage
>>
>>
>>7978703
That thing is awesome. Has anyone ever found a "book" that makes sense?

It's a bastardization of a term people used for the Portuguese. They were all very hairy, and Portugal was full of ports and port workers, called porters, so people referred to the Portuguese as hairy porters.

>tfw uni library is ugly and badly stocked

the only decent thing to come out of my uni library is some fucking hilarious bant when someone discovered a tumblr of a gay guy who would take pics of himself masturbating and shoving buttplugs up his ass in the library, the pics used to be up online but they were taken down when someone notified the uni, search 'youngcumlover69' and you'll get the one or two results that remain after the uni tried to purge any knowledge of it happening

It's hard to see in the pic but that glass ceiling has a subtle UV filter on the inside, like a coating applied to the glass, so it's not too bright inside at all. It's really a very nice reading room to study in. Not loud either. Source: former student

>It must be a movement then, an actuality of the possible as possible. Aristotle’s phrase formed itself within the gabbled verses and floated out into the studious silence of the library of Saint Genevieve where he had read, sheltered from the sin of Paris, night by night. By his elbow a delicate Siamese conned a handbook of strategy. Fed and feeding brains about me: under glowlamps, impaled, with faintly beating feelers: and in my mind’s darkness a sloth of the underworld, reluctant, shy of brightness, shifting her dragon scaly folds. Thought is the thought of thought. Tranquil brightness. The soul is in a manner all that is: the soul is the form of forms. Tranquillity sudden, vast, candescent: form of forms.

Literally everything is in the library of babel. That's kind of the point. Came in to post this. Was there a few weeks ago. Pain in the ass to get a reader's ID for one day of research, but the library itself was heavenly

This is one of my lesser known favorites, the Charles Lea Library at UPenn. Second pic is how it looked when it was still in Lea's home. Love how clearly it was a place of work and study, not a trophy room.
