Are there any books that you love but don't exactly have the best prose?

how aesthetically pleasing the writing itself is
- Dostoyevsky
- Dickens
- Dreiser
- Steinbeck
- basically every good science fiction novel

I would say Steinbeck is quite a good stylist

Steinbeck and Dickens are great aesthetic writers. Ive only read translated dostoyevsky, and never read dreiser.

Steinbeck and Dickens are the two textbook examples of a clunky prose style. You must have a tin ear.

You must be joking.

Steinbeck's is intentional though, paucity of "aesthetic" value is not a neg if it works with the content in a productive way.
