>on the road was written in 3 weeks
it shows
After years of false starts, read the history.

>as i lay dying was written in 6 weeks

Doesn't matter. The earlier drafts were scrapped and he just wrote it on a scroll in 3 weeks.
>Divine comedy was written in 12 years

He wrote the first draft of what would become On the Road in that time. It then took him three years to edit, the final form very different from how it looked initially. I wish you fucking idiots would do a little independent research to verify your facts rather than rely on stale memes and myths.

>The Tunnel was written in 30 years
I still have time.

and apparently he didn't edit any of it
then again faulkner was a lying drunkard so who knows?
>Frankenstein was written in less than a year by a 18 year old.
>I'm underage b& and just finished my magnum opus

Congrats. Reported.

>"written"
More like "typed".

It is ridiculous, and one of the funny things is that the kind of people who idolize him tend to be the kind of deadbeat, effeminate, licentious individuals he despised. Kerouac was pretty conservative throughout his life and the idea that he was just some #YOLO degenerate is so off-the-mark. He was widely read and extremely dedicated to his craft.

Writers always lie about how many years/drafts it took to finish their work. It's all marketing. Nobody wants to buy a first draft of anything.
