Hi everyone, i'm new to reading and literature in general. What book do you recommend I read first ? I've read some Shaekespeare, and although I loved it the language was more of an obstacle than anything. I've read some Cormac McCarthy too. I want something not too long, pleasant, with some kind of moral.
Any ideas to help a newb like me ?

Excellent suggestion bro, esp. for aspiring literature lovers.
Also: check out some Tolstoy novella's.
Tolstoy is your man. Check out Chekhov as well.
Pick up these two:
About Love and Other Stories - Anton Chekhov (Bartlett Translation)
(try to get Maude translations for these)
The Death of Ivan Ilyich - Tolstoy
The Cossacks - Tolstoy
How Much Land Does a Man Need? - Tolstoy

>not Kholstomer
>not Alyosha the Pot
jokes aside, tolstoy is a great segue to non-western literature, but some people find russian literature unbearable as an entry work

A lot of "recommended" books for high school are literary icons, even if everyone hates them here. Try Catcher in the Rye, Madame Bovary, The Great Gatsby, and see if you're a fan. If you have trouble with stamina, try an anthology of short stories - there's a short stories thread in the catalog that is halfway decent.
