I wrote a Hunger Games fanfic when I was 17 that I'm still a little proud of.
It was basically an original story written within the framework of the arena, focusing on District 3, a city never really explored in the books. Nothing was known except that it had a lot of Asians and produced electronics, so I worked off of that.
I used it as training ground, and I think that's actually a very good purpose for it. I was too shitty for real publishing and needed general improvement and experimentation. You just need to make sure you have serious critics.
The most /lit/ thing I've ever completed was a contemplative story about a UNSC marine trapped on a desert moon with a Sangheli Elite, the two of them being the only survivors of a UNSC airstrike.
Managing to keep the alien warrior imprisoned, the marine tries to navigate the planet with the aid of his hostage, both of them realizing the futility of the conflict they've pledge their lives to. The Elite and the marine broke uncertain friends, knowing they must work together to survive. The Elite bargains for his release, but the Marine cannot bring himself to trust an alien combatant.
After encountering a reconnaissance team of three alien scouts, the tide turns on the marine. Himself now a hostage, the marine must find a way to prove his own value, eventually getting his captors to release him, only for these captors to be killed by the UNSC despite his own protests.
I tried incorporating this loose scenario into a medieval fantasy novel a few years ago, but then gave up after writing the first few chapters when I realized the world was too similar to Game of Thrones.

and, I'd wrote a short story for the Dresden Files universe and A Madness of angels. But, It's more or less writting in a established universe. I never am in the same area of the word as the main story and never interact with the main story or characters. Kinda just wanted to use there Universe. I kinda wish some more book series took on the idea of the Dungeons and Dragons or Star Wars type thing were a Established universe can hold more stories out side the little bubble of the one series.

reading fanfiction is for entertainment. Its kinda where imaginations of both child and adult meld into one. It's what I read for fun, and keeps a nice balance between the fuckton of non-fiction or the bit of formal fiction I read.

I once wrote a lesbian romance of Ovid's Medea and Shakespeare's Sycorax while they survived on the island from The Tempest; I was 13 at the time. My interests have barely changed since my youth, lesbians, magical girls, classical literature, and small islands of few inhabitants. That was the only fan fiction I've ever written. Every other fiction of mine is black comedy or satire.
I started to write one when I was 16 for an anime series I liked at that time. Finished it when I was 18, it was one of the most popular ones for that series. Still is, I guess.

I have no idea if there is a market for that. There probably is a small one. However, I like reading mind control porn, and there is a huge repository of free stories for that. Likely furries have something similar going on, so you would have to be a part of the community and have fans to make any money.

I was all set to write my own Nuzlocke comic (read: Super serious Pokemon Fanfiction). I had already completed the game and wrote the script. But i realized I was a pretty shitty artist and the only way people were going to read if the art was shitty was if the art was shitty on purpose and it was a comedy. So i started to do rewrites and then I got a girlfriend and stopped doing cringey shit. Might go back and dig it up if I can get the laptop it's saved on running.

I know quite a bit about the furry community, being I've been in it for almost a decade at this point. I was thinking a combination of what all of you have said, but you've all given me an idea.
I was considering first submitting about 50 smut one chapter stories to every available platform, about 10 per fandom, before making a multi-chapter story based on the most well-received short story, then opening a Patreon and doing commissions on the side. The rewards would be like, hey, this much money means I update the story this many times per month, and eventually a, I make a second multi-received story! If it gets high enough.
My concern is if the law will come down on my ass if I'm making cash off of an already existing IP. Or if I'm going to get my ass handed to me because of some form of tax evasion I'm unaware of.
Anyone know the legality of Patreons and making money off of porn stuff for already existing IPs?

A girl I know is writing a twenty one pilots gay fanfiction. It's about the 2 members of the band being gay for each other and doing gay things. She is calling it the noose fic because in one of the sex scenes the singer hangs from a noose on the ceiling and the drummer holds him up by his legs so that he doesn't die and gives him a blowjob.
She lets me read it whenever she updates it. It's not horrible but the writing is mediocre. I still like it though just for the novelty of it.

I've started tons of fanfics, but never finished them. It's easier to finish writing a story when you know there's the slightest chance it'll be taken seriously.
But one of my favourite stories of all time is a 500,000 word Legend of Zelda epic. I reread it every couple of years, and while the prose is just above-average, the story is still really powerful and able to make me shed manly tears.
Right now I'm writing a spec-script for an X-Files movie set between Season 1 and 2 (June 1994).
On page 41 right now and process is slow.
I'm actually considering writing out future spec-scripts into novellas and trying to get them published. I have some ideas floating around.

I've heard legends of times where there was no porn in fics whatsoever, someone even wrote a longfic of Who's Line where two of the dudes just go on a road trip. Nowadays the only fics with no porn or romance plot are only drabbles or throwaways. pic related, I can hardly find fanfics worth reading anymore.
I'm guilty of writing fics too, I'm currently writing some Fire Emblem: Fates stuff and trying to make it interesting. Its not anything serious, but it has some points that I enjoy and I need the practice anyways. When I was little I wrote a kingdom hearts epic fic, but never posted it. Computer bricked, now its lost forever.
