The Illegal Gothic immigrants didn't start arriving until the late 4th century, and they did fuck things up a bit, but what really did Rome in was the fact that they began suffering from internal political conflict and external threats simultaneously; something that hadn't happened before in Roman history.

You're leaving out the part where toward the end they also weren't breeding. They were below replacement level, just like modern America and Europe will be. Augustus noticed that Romans were on a similar path to oblivion and passed a bunch of laws to encourage marriage and fertility. Didn't work because women were effectively emancipated, just like modern America and Europe.
