Yes. I feel fairly certain that if we were to conduct a '/lit/'s favourite character' list, he would at the very least be in the top five.

>picture of a monkey with the Brazilian capital in the backdrop
Somehow, this picture is rather distasteful for me. I've read more than five books from him, yet I can't see how this particular picture conveys any meaning in accordance to his philosophy. He basically shuns morals and strives for the perversion of the hegemonic values, so I don't strictly associate his thoughts with evolution, linearity neither with any kind of physiological determination. If anything, he's an existentialist who strives to destroy the current culture of his time and free humanity from the bridle of idealism and determinism.
Pretty accurate tbf.

It always tickles me how Voltaire actually wrote this amazing jewel that shall forever grace the dignity of the human spirit:
>I see monkeys, elephants, negroes, who all seem to have some gleam of an imperfect reason. They have a language that I do not hear, and all their actions appear to also refer to a certain end. If I judged things by the first effect they make on me, I would have the leaning one to believe that of all these beings it is the elephant which is the reasonable animal.
I quite liked Candide, ou l'Optimisme, tough, since I'm personally very pessimistic.
There is still hope

Is that supposed to be Derrida?
