Hi /lit/.

I got back into reading a few months ago and it was a really great decision, I feel like I'm always learning new things and it's great. I mostly read non-fictions (cinema theory, I read a few Plato dialogues, Marcus Aurelius' Meditations, a bit of classic poetry or novels.

Problem is, I feel like I'm not reading enough, or not in the best way. I mostly read at uni or in the public transports, almost never at home because I find it hard to focus in such a friendly and everyday environment. Also, I feel like I'm a really slow reader, and if the book is a bit challenging, I suddenly have a lot of troubles focusing.

Is it just normal? Maybe I should simply keep and keep reading? Any advices for a /lit/ pleb who just wants to learn?

Well, better git in your soul.
If you're going to become an avid reader, you'll notice a lot of Changes (Part 1+2) occuring in your life. If you're still going like "Ah...Um..." when picking up a book, reading probably isn't for you.

Just keep reading anon. Don't worry too much about your reading speed. Try to read as much as possible, but don't force it on yourself to the point of detesting the activity.
Also, I wish I was as cool as Charlie was. Such an impressive man.

thanks anon. I sometimes skip reading during the week end and feel guilty about it, I hope I will realize that I shouldn't.

He was indeed a cool man, and a really great musicien. Didn't he write an autobiography full of lies, telling the world how he liked to fuck hookers and how traumatic his childhood was?

I became an avid reader like three months ago and I can't stop. I stopped watching tv and I don't spend much time on 4chan anymore.

Here's how I did it.

-Remember the average person reads like zero books a year. If you read 5 pages a day, you are 5 pages above the average person

-Don't force yourself to read. Commit to read 5 pages a day. I swear after three days you'll feel like reading more and after a month or so you should be reading 50-100 pages a day for pleasure

-Read various books at the same time. When I grab a difficult book or one that makes me sleepy I grab another and switch. This should refresh your head. Keep them thematically different. I read economics and fiction.

-It isn't a race. Reading slowly won't make you sleepy that fast. Try to acknowledge what books are for you to read fast and which aren't.

-Buy the physical copies. When you get the books from your own money you'll feel the need to read them to avoid the feel of wasting your money.

-Start with books highly discussed here so you feel motivated to discuss.

Disconnect your computer and phone from the internet, and your problems will magically disappear.

>full of lies
Shit. And I read it thinking it was true, too.

I don't know if it's full of lies, but it's a pretty good book.
