How did Menelaus hold a "firm grasp" on running water? This book is stupid.
How is the sea like wine? It's blue, dude. Was Homer fucking blind or something?

Menelaus and his men are stuck on an island because they didn't make offerings to the gods before leaving on their trip. They're told if they capture one of a Gods who lives on the island he'll tell them how to get home so they dress up in seal skins and lie on the beach and wait for him. When they capture him he tries to escape by turning into various forms including running water. They somehow hold on.

Why doesn't the book just start on chapter 5?
>>7847931
It's necessary for the end to make sense
>>7847931
I always start reading with Chapter 5 and then go back after Odysseus finishes his story. Or I just stop reading there.

I think when magic gets involved that sort of thing goes out the window. I'm sure Fraser will have written about this in the Golden Bough.
>thinking your engish translation is canon
If you read the original it would make a lot more sense
