What's lit's opinion on Herman Hesse? My dad really likes him and he introduced me to him. After reading Demian I got really interested in literature and I think Steppenwolf is a masterpice. Thoughts?

too liberal. hed probably be a Bernie supporter if he were alive. avoid him
>>
siddhartha was pretty neat. thought it was overrated, though.
>>
reddit: the author.
>>
oh hey its our bi-monthly "shit on Hesse cause i've only read Siddhartha/Steppenwolf and I want to be edgy" thread, a week ahead of schedule!
>>
I've read most of his longer work, personal favorites are Beneath the Wheel (read when I was in a similar life-stage to the main character) and The Glass Bead Game (because I love systems that value knowledge for the sake of knowledge).

Narcissus and Goldmund was a bit too artificially constructed for me with both characters representing polar opposites.

I've read Steppenwolf and Siddhartha too late in my life, I feel like Hesse got popular too quickly so he got stuck in the adolescent mindset (always searching for something).

Sorry you have bad taste?

Burroughs is shit too, faggot.
>>
leftists love him because he panders to their ignorant world views.

Siddhartha literally reads like a guy who read an article on Buddhism and had a "revelation"

Read "Under the Wheel". Underrated one by him, not too long so if you don't like it it's not a big deal, but in my opinion a really good book.

>implying

i think burroughs is shit

im sorry you havent actually read any of hesse's important stuff and just want to meme about siddhartha
>>

it's beneath the wheel I think.

that's a great one. I read everything by hesse available in English in early college.

my favorites:
1 demian
2 fairy tale collection
3 beneath the wheel or maybe journey to the east

Siddhartha is his very best despite it being a meme. it's super accessible so arrogant pricks hate on it on this board because it's "intro eastern phi"
>>
the glass bead game is dope.
