why is he never brought up here?
>>
who is he?
>>
Possible replies to this thread:

1. /lit/ doesn't read.
2. He writes middlebrow crap.
3. He hates Muslims.

...........

Salman Rushdie
>>
>>7834341
Because he hasn't made a good movie since Signs.
>>
>>7834349
Who's that?
>>
>>7834357
This is the literature board so it's probalby an author
>>
>>7834357
some paki
>>
>>7834358
You don't sound so sure about that.
>>
>>7834341
because this is a board populated almost entirely by teenage pseudointellectuals who revel in their own ignorance of anything outside a select group of works that presumably one person read once and managed to convince others to read as well
>>
>>7834368
yeah you guys are fags
>>
>>7834368
Ah, so you pick option 1.
>>
>>7834341
he's not american enough
>>
>>7834368
Ha! Fooled your ass! I'm just pretending to be a teenage psuedointelectual who revels in his own Ignorance. I'm really 35 years old.
>>
I think Salman Rushdie is p. good
>>
read midnight's children

seems he ripped off marquez
>>
>>7834473
marquez who?
>>
considering he's anti-zionist, you'd think /lit/ would love him.
>>
>>7834476
modern /lit/, everyone
>>
>>7834341
Okay, srs business, I've been hearing about this guy since I was a baby /lit/nderthal sucking on Emily Dickinson's tit.
Where do I start with him?
>>
>>7834487
the satanic verses, bro. do it.
>>
>>7834487
the satanic verses
>>
>>7834487
Midnight's Children
>>
>>7834341
Perhaps because he doesn't fit the post-modern maximalist mold that seems to sell around /lit

I read the Satanic Verses and enjoyed it. However, at the moment I have too many others novels to get after and will circle around to Rushdie when time allows.
>>
Anyone read Fury? I loved the scene with that german guy
>>
>>7835279
Now that I think about it, I wonder if The Satanic Verses could be considered a maximalist novel to a certain extent.
>>
Is anyone else afraid to read Satanic verses in public because they're afraid of Muslims getting offended and confronting you?
>>
>>7835317
Probably, this board is called c/lit/ for a reason
>>
>>7834487

midnight's children is probably the best introduction to his work, you should also read the satanic verses after that though
>>
I've only read about half of Satanic Verses
>>
>>7835334
nice try, kill yourself
>>
2001 is his only good movie
>>
>>7834476
Are you fucking serious
>>
>>7834476
De Sade
>>
>>7835317
Yes, if by confronting you mean murdering.
>>
>>7835317
I would love for that to happen. I'd be like "hey you fucking terrorist! mind your own business you stupid sandnigger. don't you have an IED to be setting off?"
>>
>>7835440

Good luck getting stabbed in the urethra.

Also from what I've heard his works actually quite shite. Only reason he gained infamy is Muslims are so easy to rile up and jump to death threats. Guy knew the consequences, wrote that shit and got himself a golden ticket called asylum and got out of wherever the hell he was holed up in. Good plan really.
>>
becaused he never HACKED THE PLANET
>>
>>7837480
you're an idiot
rushdie was already a well-known writer before the satanic verses was published

>Good plan really.
people tried to kill him
he had to hire a full time bodyguard
yeah really "good plan"
>>
>>7835303

I've read 3 of his novels and Fury is by far the weakest. I thought Midnight's Children was a masterpiece, and I quite enjoyed The Ground beneath her Feet. Fury, not so much.

oh shindiggy.
>>
I really loved Midnights Children. Any recommendations as to which of his I should read next?
