My friend gave me all his old Goosebumps books recently. I started reading them, and was overcome with nostalgia. These were a lot better than I remembered them (even with the now obvious shit-tier writing style that I was oblivious to in 4th grade). And I have a new found appreciation for those God-tier covers.

So, given the cool stories, great covers, massive nostalgia rush, and their massive popularity (I think they've sold over 350 million copies worldwide), and given the man child nature of this site, I have to say, there's really no excuse for not having a board dedicated exclusively to Goosebumps.

But that's just me. Would anyone else here be interested in such a board?

Like I said on the other thread, I would like a RL Stine board, sure, and I could even believe there might be a silent, dormant, unrealized want for the board from the community at large, just waiting to be aroused.

But don't count on Hiroyuki to pick up on it, even if we all demand it. Other than the history board he added, none of the board additions really make much sense, and there are more wanted boards that have not been added.

(Pic related was my favorite cover)

>>7832392
I remember you. I think you're wrong about Hiroyuki. The very fact that he has added niche boards far liberally than Mootles did shows that if we bitched about this enough, he would add it. What boards does the community want that he hasn't added yet?

True they're not at their peak, but I think there might be justification in giving these books their own board, or at least a RL Stine board for goosebumps, fear street, mostly ghostly, etc. If Pokemon (which is not at its peak in popularity either) has its own board than I think Goosebumps at least deserves to have a case made for it.

I don't think there's a need for a Goosebumps/Stine board.

Moot actually talked about consolidating boards before he left, saying the splits rose from necessity but were lazy solutions that caused their own set of problems.

Now Nagasaki has added a few MORE boards to the site. He'll fragment the communities too much. krippchann is a great example of what happens when you do that.

Like other anons have suggested, I think what really needs to happen is that you start your own chan. I'd use it. I love these books. I think they deserve it.

And I'm always down to talk Goosebumps on /lit/ or /tv/.

>If Pokemon (which is not at its peak in popularity either) has its own board than I think Goosebumps at least deserves to have a case made for it.

I agree. But I think the real solution is to get rid of the Pokemon board, not add a Goosebumps one.

Honestly I think a general horror/b-movie board would be better. You can have some good discussion on lit about horror but often times the pseudo-intellectual users will put you down. That would be a win-win for everybody if Hiroyuki moved all horror discussion.

And of course trying to have any real discussion on /tv/ is a fools errand.

But yeah I'd be for it pham.

Let me guess, it's written by some Snark-Lord 30 year old who got rejected by cracked.com and now is trying to make a name for himself by picking on a very easy target.

Look, in retrospect, the writing style is kind of shit-tier, but the stories are so cool that it just doesn't matter. They actually seem cooler in some ways now than when I was 10.

Also, the covers improve with age, and the nostalgia rush is a huge bonus.

You can't really prove something that's subjective anyway.
>>
>>7832353
Just make a fucking general. Goddamn, you do not need an entire board for Goosebumps.
>>
What you should do OP, if you're serious, is create your own Goosebumps forum, bring people from all corners of the web over. Then, when you get a sizeable audience, tell them to flood /lit/ with threads. Then when Hiroyuki creates the Stine board, you tell them you're deleting your forum, and that they should relocate on the 4chan stine board.

No, OP. Even if you could arouse enough interest in a Goosebumps board, it's still not the way it should be done. No single franchise should have its own board, including Pokemon.

Frankly, /lit/ is a slow enough board that it could stand to have some more traffic. But as >>7832724 suggested, there might be some justification in a general horror board. Start pushing that, pham, and I'll show my samefagging support.

This was the book I had in mind when I saw this thread. This is probably the only goosebumps book i can say legitimately unnerved me. The first one I ever did I ran into a giant. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I think you could either run from the giant or offer him an apple so he wouldn't eat you. I gave him my apple, he said thank you, ate it, and then ate me. It made me kek.

I also am trying to do a podcast about these books. More like a radio play about bringing peoples playthroughs to life. I'm working on Attack of The Purple Peanut Butter right now.

The idea of an entire board devoted to one series is retarded, but then again that didn't prevent the creation of /mlp/.

Goosebumps, at least at its peak, was as every bit as popular as these 2 (and they're not at their peak either).

Would have gotten further, but my cat jumped up on the keyboard and made me lose a couple lives. Then in my rage I lost my concentration and lost the other 3.

Fun game anon.

I reread a few of these books a little while ago, and to my great distress noticed a number of things in the writing that reminded me of my own style.

Pic related, my absolute favorite. Don't remember much about the actual plot, but I do remember the ending giving me a preteen existential crisis. If I'm remembering correctly they find the "lost legend" in Antarctica and the legend reads WHOEVER FINDS THE LOST LEGEND WILL BE LOST FOREVER. The characters look up and one says "where are we?" fade to black all is lost. Shit fucked me up

Attack of the Jack O Lanterns was the gayest book of all.
He didn't even try

main character wants to go trick or treating with a group of kids including kids who are shitty to her. wait there are two of main characters friends in the group who didn't show up. well they'll catch up. Two jack o lanterns surprise the group and I guess threaten them and force them to keep walking and force feed candy down their throats eventually the two kids who are shitty to the main character run away scared. Reveal that the two scary jack O lanterns were those two friends of main character who didn't show up and the main character narrator was in on it the whole time. Oh and on the last page Stine pulls something out of his ass where they're aliens and it is implied they're gonna eat the main character

Stine's prose might not be top-notch, but let's remember his stories were based af, or at least the good ones were. King's prose is far less embarrassing, but his ideas can't compete with Stine's, and he usually fucks up the plot halfway through. Stine usually delivers.

Although king has the same skeleton for all his novels, you can still appreciate his style, his ability to hook someone and you have to give him credit for popularising reading for a lot of people.
just don't read two of his novels in a row as they will be so similar and dull otherwise he makes a great entertaining read

Holy shit why do I have to share a board with such manchildren? I want to talk about Dostoevsky and Dickens, and yet you plebs make threads about King and Grisham - and now worse, R.L. Stine?

Yeah, I think a separate board needs to be made here, but not a Stine board, just a pleb board. /lit/ should be for patricians only. I would fully support having to register for this board and being forced to take an IQ test to gain entry.

When it comes to goosebumps there do have a very important nostalgic value for me They are also important as they convinced me that some fetishes can be an inherent rather than a learned as they triggered thoughts which a child with no knowledge of such matters should have

>I have to say, there's really no excuse for not having a board dedicated exclusively to Goosebumps.

The community is simply not big enough, for a comparison the only board here based one series is vp which is for pokemon and mlp which is for my little pony, considering this is an anime board this is rather impressive. Until you get those kind of numbers (these communities have multiple forums and sites already) and become that cancerous there wont be a new

Care to elaborate?

You're right, the community is not big enough. The idea is to arouse potentially dormant interest in existing members of the community, and maybe bring in some new ones, too.
