What are some Very Important Texts that I could take and rewrite them for the twenty-first century in a very sly way, like the way Ulysses was inspired by the Odyssey or the way Infinite Jest is basically crafted from Hamlet?

Lately I've been thinking of writing some mix of Meeting People Is Easy and Dante's Divine Comedy.

Try Greek Drama maybe?
I'd suggest Sophocles' Theban Plays or Aeschylus' Oresteia.
