Taipei is a modernist novel through and through. If you liked it, consider reading other modernists such as:
Marcel Proust
Ernest Hemingway
Knut Hamsun
Kate Chopin
Chopin I would say is severely underrated. The Awakening is kind of like Taipei exceptthe main character actually commits suicideas opposed to other modernists in which the main character just considers about it.
