>>
>>7825633
banana is the fruit of the patriarchy
>>
My Heaney Beowulf has what appears to be two different people drawing stars in it

Also a bunch of underlined parts and small notes such as "courage can alter your fate"

Because 'Pippa' and 'Big Beastie' sound like posh public (private in the US) school girls and I used to think I was better than them. Travellers like them are generally quite cringey too so I wanted to be edgy and off piste but I've grown up a lot since I got this book so dgaf anymore.

Probably going to read it at some point, I quite like Chatwin.

I bought a second hand Neuromancer and on the last page someone has written "Security Intrusion Countermeasures"

>No one will ever see a book and have it remind them of you
>Youll never have a relationship that close with anyone

Anyway sometimes I wonder about these people
Are they still friends? Did they stop hanging out which made donating the book easier and less awkward to do?
>>
>>7826679
sadness bc u know that bitch probably never finished the book to see the note that was written at the end

In the margin of a later page from dante's inferno someone wrote "What a cunt..." in a way that practically oozes exasperation.

I just don't see how highlighted half of a page helps.

I teach 5th grade and when we read difficult pieces I have them try to highlight selectively.
"Remember, highlighting everything does nothing to help you understand this essay. High light specific, important phrases. Use your pen to annotate in the margins. Alright guys, lets do this!"
Once I collect their essays, all I see is highlighted words. Every fucking word highlighted. Shit, guys, why won't you follow these fucking directions?
>>
I have a used copy of Germinal by Zola in a portuguese translation.
The book has two dedicatories amidst the front pags.

While reading, I stumbled across two pages that weren't properly cut when the book was being binded so their end was linked as one page. As result, it was impossible to read what was on them. I had to cut the paper between them in order to read.

This means that the two previous owner either didn't read the book or didn't care enough to see what happened in these two pages.
>>
>>7829575
Highlighting is fucking exciting. It's like all your life they told you not to write in books and HOLY FUCK now this teacher gives me a fucking MARKER is she INSANE? Better enjoy this before they throw her in jail!

Also, as a 5th grader, you worry about highlighting the wrong stuff. I remember I had no problem following "hard" books for that age like LOTR, but when you told me to highlight important shit I was like "well what's not important? Articles, connecting words, and verbs like 'said', sure, but pretty much everything else is important to the story OR HE WOULDN'T HAVE FUCKING WRITTEN IT YOU GODDAMN TEACHER."

I mean, I get it a little more now, certain symbols touch on important themes, etc. but as a fifth grader it's a harder distinction to make. So you just fucking highlight everything

Got a copy of Sappho fragments once that must've been owned by a litizen before. It has '>tfw when no qt Ancient Greek gf to help me discover my sexuality and intellect' written in it, chevron and all.

>>7829627

>>7829836
The chan nomenclature or the lesbianism?
>>
>>7828784
I understand, but highlighting too much can be a bit distracting. Also, if you're highlighting for a test or something then you might ignore some important text you didn't highlght when you go back to study.

I really like this thread. Wish there was more though.

This is from a beaten old collection of W.B. Yeats's poems.
