Well it depends on the specific fields I suppose. Maybe lit theory professors take him seriously (and he definitely is being studied there, some friends that study comparative literature confirmed it), but I'm guessing cognitivists that dominate the psychological field consider him some Lacanian obscurantist. As for continental philosophy, most probably acknowledge him as a serious philosopher despite knowing about his jokes, obscenities and copy/pasted books. During my time as a philosophy student (bachelor's and master's) I rarely heard his name mentioned by actual professors, but they did take the discussion and concepts seriously every time a student brought him up (and they did quite a few times since he's popular).
