Favorite Infinite Jest editions? Mine is pic related but I do like the one with clouds, it seems fitting.
has anyone collected all editions?
new cover is true patrician cover
Wow... American here, might have to order that UK version, that's pretty awesome.
'my literary hero'
does zadie post on /lit/?

No, she's just an idiot.
>>7820878

>>7820820

>>7820849
Any one else hate this cover? It looks like clipart
Link pls.
>>7821255
Yeah
Is the UK 20th anniversary edition deckle-edged like the US one?
>>7821280
Nope.
>>7821255
Yup. The previous UK cover was also better than the American ones, IMO.
>>7821333
what do you mean "wew lad"? whats that mean?
>>7821340
>what do you mean "wew lad"? whats that mean?
Wew lad.
The OG version is the only acceptable one.
who do all the IJ covers make it look like some pop-sci self help book youd find in the "must go" section of a bookshop?
>>7821355
>Wew lad
Wew lad
>>7821355
what?
>>7821491
>What?
Wew lad
>>7821487
cuz that's what it is senpai
>>7821504
>>7820849
>>7821255
a minimalist design, which is literally the opposite of IJ's aesthetic
>>7820820
The post-it notes seem like a reference to the footnotes or maybe DFW's writing process. Either way, it feels like an extension of the kind of sensationalism that happened because of his suicide. I dont like it.
pic related is truly the best
I hate them all
>>7821767
what the fuck
This reminded me that infinite jest is about to be released in hungarian for the first time.
>>7820820
Anyone know how to get this version in the US? I can't find it anywhere online.
>>7821983
Book depository? Amazon.co.uk?
>>7820820
Cool cover OP. I can certainly see the appeal. I personally think pic related is the *best* edition of all of them. I have the 2007 edition with the blue and red lines
I personally don't get about editions. I did buy the new 20th edition though since it was on sale.
>>7822789
That edition does seem like the best to me, I'll buy that copy the day my copy's worn out too much. I have the 2007 edition, too~~~
>>7822789
>>7823228
I got you F A M
>>7823257
I thought Hal had a retarded brother, not a sister
>>7823257
Spanish editions don't count
>>7821340
wew lad roughly translates to "sarcastic enthusiasm"
Bump, i'd like to see more of this thread.

u'd be suprise ;)

yeah, but it hits a nice hypersaturated 50's nostalgia vibe that kinda fits
>>7821721
>its long so its maximalist
>>7824801
1. kinda
2. it certainly is maximalist in other respects if not simply length
>>7820846
I'm getting OP's soon and will have the main 3
>>7820820
How is this cover related to the book? mine's a really crap one with horizontal lines all over it but the blue sky one makes the most sense to me
>>7825163
UDP? End? Ass? This looks terrible.
>>7825177
Its the german translation of the title.
>>7825260
Yeah I know, it's something like 'Endless Fun', but it looks like a word cloud or something and is just very strange.
Did I fall for a lit meme again?
I have never before put down a book due to boredom before this one
>>7825343
Boredom? Usually people put it down due to other reasons, I think. What made you think it was boring?
Did you put it down at around 150 pages?
>>7825343
It's /lit/'s pleb filter 2bh
>>7825346
yeah, around that far I think
I have never read a book that didn't make me care or feel interested in at least a character after the first ~100 pages
and writing felt like it took forever to say nothing, at 2 or 3 points I thought I had lost my place because of how repetitive it was
I would've just dismissed it as a lit ruse but people seem to love this book elsewhere, so I guess it just gets better 300 pages in or something
Where can I buy this version?
>>7825374
It really starts coming together in a satisfying way at about page 800 :^)
>>7825424
thanks, glad I dropped it early then
>>7825374
I'm not yet finished with it, but I thought it was one of the best books I've ever read in the first 100 pages. Not even memeing here.
>>7825382
Book depository
Even if it gets hate, I still wish this was an official cover.
>>7826559
almost as disgusting as the wheres wally pynchon covers
its like something a redditor would draw
>>7826601
it literally IS something a redditor drew
>>7821481
even though dfw himself disliked this design, I have it and I dig it. It has some kind of serenity
>>7826609
lol
>>7821255
It would be better if the "Infinite Jest" looked like it was written in crayon too.
>>7820820
That one best fits the theme of the book, but the first edition print is kind of iconic
>>7826623
>U CAN'T BE SERIOUS
>>7825346
Nothing happens. There's no real story. Some chapters are incredible, but it feels horribly repetitive.
After the chapter about the hooker with the dead baby I took a break, but then got sidetracked.
>>7826623
Which edition would be the best to buy? Without fucking up the spine too badly while reading this fucking monster? I'm not into hardcovers either plus I'm on a budget. I see pics of people's infinite jest's split in 2
>>7826862
what do you mean "pinch the spine"?
>>7826950
Take your index finger and thumb and apply pressure to about a half-inch from the spine. You don't have to constantly do it, but I made it through all of IJ with barely visible marks on the spine doing this. Also, don't lay the book flat EVER if you're in the middle.
>>7820820
I think the clouds are best fitting for IJ

I had to learn this the hard way 5 times before I stopped.
It's just that when I'm really absorbed in a good work, and my arms got tired, I set the books flat on instinct.
Publishers really ought to use extra amounts of (decade-lasting) glue with a shape that compounds into a convex curve, like Penguin does for some really good paperback editions. But alas.
>>7826794
>Nothing happens
I mean, not really. It's just that the really big stuff happening in the plot is all in the background.
So Infinite Jest the video tape is actually memes becoming too powerful?
>>7827440
penguin is the best publisher when it comes to binding paperbacks in my experience
>>7828588
Infinite jest presciently predicted the rise of netflix binging, where you just lie in bed all day marathoning a whole season of house of cards. The only thing he missed is that infinite jest is a movie, but we're actually in the golden age of television. I'd say more but I'm saving material for a thinkpiece on this very subject.
>>7820820
That looks like a John Green novel
>>7828787
