Get ready for the worst prose of your life.
Theres a french dude who's written lots of books on the mexican revolution, he's called Jean Meyer. Just avoid him when it comes to the "cristiadas" (war between catholics and the state), he's very biased on behalf of those catholic cunts
Look for research by a guy called Alan Knight, he's been at it for years but idk if he has produced a big book out of it.
If you're interested in the literature of the Revolution, Azuela is a must though not a very good writer. Martín Luis Guzman's 'La sombra del caudillo' is an even better bet. Once you've understood the effect of the Revolution on XXth-century Mexican politics (namely the creation of the PRI) and literature, read Jorge Ibargüengoitia's 'Los relámpagos de agosto' for some GOAT satire.
Thanks everyone, this really helped.
tl;dr

Not OP, but a good spanish about Mexican revolution would be appreciated.
Why is it that black people were all about reclaiming their ancestral heritage but Mexicans are content to live under their catholic overlords?

because catholicism combined with the native traditions, they were never erased in a complete way.
