Evangelion x Gravity's Rainbow crossover set in the south that isn't readily identifiable as a fanfiction.

Something I'm gonna end up hating and scrapping halfway through after I dismiss it as stupid because I can't write for shit. And you?

I'm writing a plot for comic starring Fall of Soviet Russia and a jazz band

I actually shared that idea because I've already written it at novel length and then put it away because I didn't think it was good enough.

Just think, it's out there somewhere and you'll never see it.

Trying to flesh out an idea for a novel, but I'm having a hard time focusing my themes and building the characters.

People who write: do you have the overlay of the plot in your mind before setting out to write it, or do you wing it as it goes?
>>
>>7815482
World is deluded in thought that what they need to see is Batman vs Superman. What they really await to witness is a mindfucking conundrum of a crossover that Evangelion x Gravity's Rainbow is promised to be.

So to flesh out the Eva x GR thing a little more, the idea was that they take place in the same timeline, with influences from characters in GR reaching the characters of Evangelion through an intervening generation of engineers, scientists, soldiers and mystics in the American military-industrial complex as America solves the problem of shielding Japan and other allies in the region from an increasingly aggressive China. It begins in the late 1980s and ends shortly before the second impact.

It's always the best to know who your characters are and what thread your going to lead them through before writing the actual Thing. You may try to write something up without precision, improvise with your setting, try out the possibilities - but never use it as the actual material for the novel.
>>
>>7815534

What are the themes tho
>>
>>7815315
I have three projects

1. A daily journal, which I use for recording general thoughts and events. I started keeping it in late January after suffering a mid 20s crisis.

2. A collection of aphorisms that I started the other day, using excerpts from the thoughts in my journal. Reading a bunch of Nietzsche inspired me to give it a whirl and it's kind of fun to write like this. It's almost like literary shitposting.

3. A fantasy world building project that has been simmering to one degree or another for about 3 years now.

My general intention is to collect my aphorisms one day, combine the philosophy I outline in them (which is admittedly, by no means groundbreaking or new) with the fantasy world and then maybe write some genre fiction with it.

I figure by having some philosophical underpinnings I'll avoid the 'harry potter' trap of genre fiction where you have an author who really has no idea what he or she is trying to say just writing some assholes bumbling about in some fantasy world, and if there is a message it's an incredibly generic one like "being mean to people based on their ancestry is bad."

I've also written out most of the LOTR shit over time. My fantasy world does not have Elves and Dwarves. Some tropes are present, to be sure, but I've wanted to avoid both the 'magic and elves are everywhere' setting of shit like WoW or most D&D settings, while also avoiding the humanocentric grimdark magical minimalism of something like song of ice and fire. My tropes are mostly borrowed from Mesopotamian mythology with some Greek, Nordic and Vedic influences.
>>
>>7815534
It sounds like the kind of fiction that would be easy to fuck up, but overwhelmingly awesome if done right. My opinion is that of all things first you should know what your ending is going to be. Because those are bought very complex stories, and if you're crossing them you must determine if it'll be Fusion, or Dominance of one story over another, or a completely different thing
>>
>>7815552
The same stuff about the mil-industrial complex from GR, but brought up to the present day and the way some of that faded after the cold war and left people sinking out of the middle class.

The depressing reality of life in a mill-town in the south.

A girl who's completely and utterly insane but gets through life without anyone putting her in a cell because she's extremely smart and beautiful. I know that's not a theme, but the way she's insane is.

The pseudo-meritocratic upper-middle class and its obsession with elite universities.

The angry, uneducated rural and small town proles and their obsession with the military.

Changing face of the south as more industry moves there due to an easier business climate.

I dunno, I guess there are others, but remember that it's still a fanfiction at heart and a lot of themes are basically ripped off.
>>
>>7815572
It's already done. Far from perfect but had its moments and was a super fun learning experience. I may or may not fix it later but it's not an idea I'm attached to as a project to finish right now.

It's definitely dominant Gravity's Rainbow. The Eva tie-ins are so vague that you'd probably have to be looking for them to notice.

Why are Americans so arrogant?
>>
>>7815578
So Asuka is one of main characters then, good choice
>>
>>7815606
Kinda. I tried to make her substantively different from Asuka, and she's definitely the most interesting character. She's sort of a proto-Asuka who hints at an Asuka's usefulness but never touches an Eva.

>>7815605
Go write your own set in Liverpool or Fukuoka or wherever then.

A lot of GR is set in the states when it focuses on Slothrop's family anyway.
>>
>>7815623
You know, as much of a fanfiction as this is, I want to see this thing erupt, have a grand scale. It's interesting what kind of impact this story can provide. And a top of that, just the thought of crossing Eva and GR feels so right... like sometime Eva crossed Mecha genre with Psychology and Meta

That's basically why I wrote it. The sources are both trying to be enormous, universe-scale stories already, but it clicked with me that they touch enough of the same things without contradicting one another and left out enough of the time in-between their respective established timelines that it could be EVEN BIGGER.
>>
>>7815672
Anon, it's all in your hands now. You can either strive to become an author skilled enough to write this, or you can skip it and let it be blown with the wind, until some other guy will appear to write this story and fuck it up for everyone else. Realize this now and don't let me down.
>>
>>7815605

That's not arrogance though, just ignorance. It's hard as fuck to write a place you lived in or never been to at least, there are a lot of sensibilities and characteristics of each place and culture that has to come across when writing. It's just almost impossible to do that without truly knowing the place.

I'm rewriting a short story over a first draft. It's about a dude who is signed by a music company strictly to seek and destroy an album that was edited during a past dictatorship. The album included a song, sung by an artist who got famous after the dictatorshop, which lyrics laud the dictator.
>>
I'm translating a short story
>>
>>7815742
Was this song aired?
>>
>>7815742
Nah, the album was released by a firm which was linked to the ruling party. It was bought by a bigger company after the dictator died.
It's fictional tho.
>>
>>7815753
Damn, that last one went to you
>>
>>7815773
I see. The point I tried to make that Airing of the song or Releasing of said album into the public makes this music company's intentions lack sense in the story
>>
>>7815784
The song was recorded 40 years ago, and it's existence is kind of an urban legend among music nerds. The artist wants the album to be destroyed so his reputation cannot be damaged.
>>
>>7815516
Ever heard of punctuation??!!""@
>>
>>7815796
Maybe it shouldn't be just an urban legend. Make this record oppose some actual sustaining threat for the artist, so that he is really anxious for this record to be destroyed asap. You can add another party that wants this artist's career destroyed by presenting record to the public. You can even squeeze out a moral conflict out of this.
>>
>>7815784
*recorded and released

>>
>>7815814
that being being?
>>
>>7815814
So, masochism then?
>>
>>7815811
Yeah I thought about the artist being a socialdemocrat in the present.
The main story is about the seeker tho, I think it turned out to be a little pynchonesque at the end. He has been searching for that album for seven years in old album stores, second handed vinyl humble sales and shit. He's tired of seeing the same albums over and over, but it's his job and he's also a music nerd so it's like that's the only thing he can do for a living. He finds two copies of the LP and gives them to the company, never seeing them again. In a store, he finally finds another copy and he feels the urge of taking it. He goes to a cafe with the album and doesn't phone his chief. Suddenly, a dude he saw at the store walks into the cafe and, in front of the accomplice silence of the waiters and the guests, he punchs the seeker and runs away with the LP. The seeker suspects he was also hired by the company and that, in some way, his sedition was already expected.
Excuse my english tho

Three short movie scripts.

I finished the narrative for one, so now I'm story boarding and scouting locations.

The other only has one line of dialogue. Its kind of corny, but it is easily digestible. So I'm storyboarding and waiting for a good day to shoot

The last I'm still working on, and I have the first scene written, but nothing beyond that.

Fantasy Sword and Sorcery schlock, except the gimmick is that the protagonist has actual autism. Attachment to objects, uses gestures to suggest desires, no fear of dangers, ignorance to pain, and all that. She's fun to write.
>>
>>7816079
So it's slapstick comedy then?
>>
>>7815883

The narrative is a 6 minute montage in the style of un homme qui dort that draws heavily from existential and absurd philosophy. It takes a post modern approach by using the second person.

the second is a 2 minute short about someone cleaning, finding a box of momentos, missing their dad, and giving him a call.

the last is about a break up. it is a black comedy about two peoples relationship not working out, and the protagonist finding a new romance.

>>
>>7816088
It's more of a dark humor, but some lighthearted humor is to be had with someone as dopey as the protagonist. She's a member of this "super special" race that are all, inherently, autistic to varying degrees in severity and along the spectrum. To some people only immediate dangers have any gravity, and they are completely oblivious to things like politics, learning to do things, and raising their children, so without any perceived binding between them and society, they wander away from the settlements, and the savants have to go out there and haul them back or else they'd just die from starvation out in the wilderness. The bumblers leave some interesting landmarks in their wake, such as a line of rocks stacked in order of largest to smallest and the person who organized them crushed under the biggest of them all. Then there's a handful of fun mishaps due to the protagonist being socially and mentally inept and making up for it in disproportionate physical fortitude.

musings and ramblings that are leading me to the ultimate thoughtform in the mirror of life.

Im taking the stairway to enlightenment through the use of words. Im not concerned with reinventing any wheels in regards to philosophy. Its the journey that gives me a thrill. Knowing that i have conceived it in my own mind, the workings of the world and of the dynamic it has with the doings of man and the intent of all those that would otherwise be oblivious to their daily going abouts.

It was always a rush to inject. It was such a pleasure to feel the wave of inclusive ecstasy roll through his body. In the bleak, encompassing closet, nothing mattered. The otherwise uncomfortable encasement gave a cozy feeling similar to that a coffin would: no responsibility, no future, no past. In this fleeting moment no danger was heeded, for there were none. A feeling like no other, a literal weightlessness as he rode the drug back through time.

intro to class fiction about the ability to buy and sell time. inspired by farhenheit 451.

this was high school, can post more if u wish to laugh

Comrade you gotta let people read this. It sounds amazing.

>>7815496
All you need to write a novel is a clear setting and at least two clear characters. The rest is editing.

>>7815315
I'm writing a novel about a pair of drifters in a post-nuclear world where humanity was less wiped out than mutated into dozens of species of pleasure-loving monsters, living in anarchy all over the world and ineffectually policed by a feeble government that is only known by the patrolling robot cops it deploys to try to maintain order (which more often than not join in). The two drifters, a man and a teenage girl, wander through this polluted wasteland of hedonism alternately embracing and protecting each other from it. There's lots of smut involved as you might expect. After my last novel was relatively restrained I want this one to be a major blowout.
