Hjalmar Söderberg is a good intro
Literally only notable because it features one original (for a thriller) character. All other characters bland or cliche as fuck, male protagonist is a clear author stand in. Plot standard fare.
Only read the first one, but I really enjoyed it. I hadn't seen the movie yet so I was able to keep an open, unbiased mind. The writing isn't anything amazing, but it certainly isn't horrible either. No idea why /lit/ hates it so much.

Honestly, I thought Lisbeth was one of the least interesting characters in the book. Never understood the fascination with her. In fact, she's probably the main reason I haven't bothered to pick up the second and third books.
