how many words a day do you write, /lit/? does having a daily goal even help?

A few hundred.
I make a goal of recording at least some coherent thoughts each day to keep in shape. It helps me stay in shape.
As for fiction, I'm in a rut right now.
So I'd say, on average, 500 words a day. 2000 on an exceptional day, which I haven't had in a while. 300 on a bad day.

you should read more than you write imo

if you read a book a month you still read more than you write

you should think more than you read
i don't find word counts helpful. i use timers instead. an hour and a half, six days a week was my peak. i'm far from that now but trying to build up again.

Nine Day Novel, this book by steve windsor encourages 5000-10,000 a day. Crazy hard for me

About a thousand a day. I go more by time though-- two or three hours a day. More on the weekend ofc.
