>current fwb reads twice as quick as I do
>seems to have slightly better reading comprehension as well
>try to read faster but its like my inner voice can't keep up
>ask her if she says the words in her head while she reads
>replies with a curious "no?"
>she semi-self taught herself how to read very young (before she can fully remember) and never developed the habit of using an inner voice while reading
>tfw /lit/ lied and told me subvocalization was just a meme and not to worry about it

I want to read better, damn it. What resources or techniques would you recommend for unlearning this oppressive habit?
>>
"the habit of using an inner voice while reading"

...? what do you mean by this? is this something that people do?

Delete these.

This whole thread is a troll thread.

Just be happy that you found somebody smarter who cares about you.

I'm well aware this thread will garner cringey meme responses, but that's not why I posted this thread.

I want to read better for my own sake. She's really cool, but c'mon.

You yourself are a troll. Go away.

did your parents not teach you that it was slower to subvocalize?

How is mine not a legitimate question? What rules have I broken? Why not just hide this thread?
>>
It's impossible to have proper reading comprehension without subvocalization. Delete this thread, it's b8.

The whole concept of fwb baffles me. Like, if you care about each other why not just be together for real?

And if you don't care, why the benefits, why not just fap at this point. I don't know. I could never bring myself to fuck a person I feel nothing for.

normies are all childish sociopaths who have no problem with the idea of using a person as a means to an end
>>
>>7802310
while you are so far removed from any sort of meaningful interaction with another person that you use old cartoon pictures to criticize those who have at least talked to somebody else outside the medium of ordering fast food since the new year

is it difficult writing interesting characters when the only noise you've heard from a woman in the flesh in the last 2 years is your mom sighing when you leave the kitchen with yet another plate of totino's pizza roles?

>>7802288

I am a huge faggot I guess, in fact I literally couldn't get it up for my first girl until I told her that I loved her, after that I had no problem.

But I'm not judging them negatively for that, I'm just saying I never could do it. My limit, not theirs.

OP here. I said "fwb" because going into detail wasn't really pertinent to the post. I actually care about her a good deal; I think she's wonderful, yet I don't want to be in a committed relationship. The two aren't mutually exclusive and she understands that. The sex is actually fantastic, mostly for the fact that we actually sort of adore each other. There's a lot of snuggling and cartoon watching and article sharing involved.

Chill out there, projecto. The several billion humans who don't use 4chan aren't all exactly the same. Read a book.

That's the point of fwb. There are only two possible outcomes: either it's an actual relationship with people too afraid to call it like it is, or it's a one-sided deal that becomes cuckoldry general. Unless the sex is very occasional there's no escaping this.

I'm capable of reading with and without subvocalisation, although actual researchers debate whether you actually are not subvocalising.
Without subvocalisation the text loses it's sound, stresses, intonation, the highs and the low, it just becomes a bland piece of information funnelled into your brain, the only merit that remains to them is the information they convey, not how they were chosen for sound; for their music.

Academic papers to get through quickly not subvocalising is fine but to do it with literary works is just idiotic.

I agree with these posts. I almost always subvocalize and I think it really improves my comprehension of what the author is saying/illustrating. Not to mention some texts are meant to be subvocalized so you can appreciate the beauty of the words. The only time I don't subvocalize is when I read research articles that are just blasting facts/statistics at me without any critical discussion.

But hey, if you can speed read and retain the real information/message behind the text, more power to you.
>>
If you read fiction without subvocalizing you're doing it wrong.
