Okay I'm gonna ask a serious question here.
I am not used to this board but it seems obvious that most of you are into an aristocratic intellectual delusion with all your pleb/patrician thing.

Do any of you seriously thinks that the idea of ubermensch, as used by Nietzsche and which describes more or less the philosopher who is constantly asking what is the value of values (constantly asking, not satisfying himself with some "hurr nothing is true, lol at moralfags !"), could refer to some narcissist idol of the entertainment world (wether it be a pornstar, a sportsman, an actor or even a political leader) ?

Was the one who said "nietzsche fucking hated socrates u fkn tard holy shit read a book" serious and not aware of the problematical and ironic nature of his relation to Socrates ?

Are you just trolling or are you genuinely what you appear to be concerning the western history of thought : Americans ?

I wasn't talking about Nietszschean ubermensch though. I also don't think humans necessarily must reach the highest possible point in intellectual pursuit of any way to be above mere humans.
Ronaldo is a genius and a perfect example of one who mastered his gift to the point of seeming extraordinary to humans who observe the act and can never hope to match it. Its the closest thing to breaking through the veil of this reality and its borders of possibility.
Is he the only one? No, but they're rare.

I was precisely asking if it was irony or not.
And even if it is irony, and it obviously was to some extent, there is a certain form of irony that exists for the sole purpose of hiding actual stupidity with faked stupity when refering to cultural objects.

Pointing out that poor pedantry is nowhere near trying to psychoanalyse anything.

But I guess that even the use of this word was ironic too, right senpai ? ;^)

why do people hate djoko and love fed

fed is arrogant as fuck and djok is not really
>>
>>7802990
>fed is arrogant as fuck and djok is not really

lol, federer has consistently been one of the most humble sports superstars, as well as one of the most humble tennis players

To answer your question for me it is:
- Grew up and played tennis at a time when Federer was dominating the sport
- His demeanor and likeability

Foremost though, his skill and elegance is unmatched, the precision and grace of which he played was absolutely marvellous - coming into the sport from/during an error where the serve and volley dominated and now moving into the extreme physicality and fitness of the other big four. On a skill-wise level i believe he's just beyond anyone else.
>>
>>7802990
>>7803003
Also I don't hate djokovic just love federer
>>
>>7803003
He really isn't, he projects that image. Take a closer look at fed and especially how he was when he was younger, he was hothead mcgee.

I agree he has the best style by far though but djoko has an iron will which is just as admirable
>>
>>7803012
Boy I am a huge fed fan, I know how he was when he was younger, and he has curbed that to a huge extent, consistently in his career been among the quietest and focused players. As though what he was like when he was young really applied though?

I think they all have an iron will at the top of the top of the game, Djokovic is more noticable as is Nadal's because they have such immense physicality and ability to return.

I mean if he projects that image how are we supposed to know the difference? If all we see is him being humble and collected who are we to say he is not? If we saw him not being humble, not collected, to what extent does it occur to have him concealing his identity rather than just having emotion and outbursts as all people do?
>>
>>7803003
Mcenroe and Murray always have been the most humble ones, the latter hrough his natural british modesty.
>>
>>7803022
lesser seen interviews where he comes across as a dildo
>>
>>7803027
I wholeheartedly agree, I've always admired Murray for his second serve game and Nadal has a superb right arm forehand.
>>
>>7803032
Right which is why I mentioned my last point, I would honestly dislike him if he came across as faultless.
>>
>>7803041
yeh, that's fair enough you can like him for whatever reason, i'm saying he's not really that humble which it seems you're now agreeing with
>>
>>7803052
Not what I said at all, I think he is truthful when he states things, when he loses and says 'they had the better game today' when he wins and says 'I did well on the serve and volley'. I'm not saying his outward persona is faultless and that he isn't actually that, I'm his persona is normal and humans and both the moments where he is humble and arrogant are true.
>>
>>7802279
>Roger Federer is the epitome of the ubermensch sportsman. There is no greater single sportsman in history.
hedonist cannot be ubermencsh
>>
>>7803063
How is he a hedonist? His first goal in life is excellence in his sport.
>>
>>7803066
hedonists dwell in entertainment. sportsmen live through entertainment for others as well as themselves since sportsmen also live through their pleasures, their avidity towards pleasures, their pains, their aversion towards pains.
>>
>>7803058
well, you said he was one of the most humble sports stars and now are saying he has moments of not being humble which yes, is human but obviously the opposite of humble and undermines the whole most humble sportstar claim. I don't think arrogant neccessairly is the truth for all sport stars.
nadal doesn't seem to be, Murray either along with plenty others from other sports.

He's graceful on the court, typically polite in big interviews and quite arrogant often in smaller interviews. So no, I don't think your claim holds up

you liking him despite this i'm not disputing

is what I said, also it would take quite a huge leap for someone who is the greatest in there sport to be arrogant than to be truthful.

"typically polite in big interviews and quite arrogant often in smaller interviews" if you actually have sources for these I would be quite interested, other than what are very rare outbursts he seems to conduct himself cordially.

I've seen a lot of vids claiming him being "arrogant" are also ones where he is just truthful 'I am a very talented player" and even then laughs and doesn't seem to take himself too seriously.

>>
>>7803100
'i am a very talented player' is truthful but not humble. Humble is essentially not tooting your own horn. He has done that in interviews and he doesn't always laugh afterwards.

Think of the greats who talk like that and think of the ones who don't say it publicly. Cristiano says it, Messi doesn't.

There are plenty of superstars who never say anything like that and on that i'd say are more humble and also that it depends how you define 'one of the most' but by any normal grouping he'd be out of that bracket for saying things like that given the plethora of superstars who never do.

These other greats aren't dishonest when they don't say things like that, they just choose to be humble and don't want to get involved in those kinds of comments
>>
>>7803141
I mean the times he says these things are fucking tiny...no way is he comparable to ronaldo lmao what? cristiano ronaldo lives that shit and toots his horn in every single interview he takes.

I'd really like to see some interviews of him saying these things such as I'm very talented as they are decidedly rare and the vast majority are asked for in reaction to the question 'How do you explain your success?' etc, unlike Messi, he does not have a team he can rely on or point to as reasons for his success.

I doubt any great has not said they played well, and if they didn't they are just dishonest.

>>
>>7803248
have you seen a post match interview before?
>>
>>7803322
yep, and paradoxically to describe themselves in that manner would be even more arrogant, as the lower level of their skills allowed victory.

You will never see federer saying he played poorly unless he statistically, obviously did play poorly. He will commonly say he thought he succeeded here and here.

>>
>>7803362
i don't think you know what humble means.
>>
>>7803354
the ubermensch is typically the guy who bears the eternal return, who agrees to it, who would not reject it.

I doubt that Federer would not be scared to live eternally his life, again and again with full knowledge of what will happen, day after day.

In fact, the eternal return has the purpose to break hedonism. those who accept it are no longer hedonists, because those people accept boredom, lassitude which means that they accept that nothing their curiosity, their speculation, their fantasies will be killed. The excitement is killed.
Life has no flavor for anybody who refuses the eternal return.

lassitude is the enemy of the hedonist, this leads him to think that it is not worth it to live over and over the same life.

so in one word, the eternal return is the occidental samsara.
(when you meditate, you become conscious of your ''past lives'' (it is not really past lives, but it feels real, you live them as real, just as dreams are real and reality today is real)
the purpose of saying these past lives is to observe that you have been embracing the same degeneracy life after life, to this one very life of yours in 2016. what is this degeneracy? the ignorance of the sterility of hedonism (to conduct your life) ).

but the eternal return is intellectual, so it is a hit or miss on its effects ''to change your life'' (which means ''to break your faith in hedonism''').

the asians meditation is far more systematic, since you see before your eyes that you are a degenerate as long as you have faith in what you think and what you feel (and seeking better sensations (or at least, avoiding those that you do not like)).
>>
>>7803354
I do not know whether the word project is good here.
the relation sportsman/audience is not simple. the sportsman cannot exists alone.

I am sure that most of the time, sportsmen do not care about their audience, but often, they talk that sooner or later they are pushed by the public in some crucial moment of their match.
this could be tied to the notion of the sublime, like kant explains it.

most of the time, the sportsman seeks the victory, which is the validation of the third-party and of the loser of his winning.

>>
saying that superman, federer and others is the uberman is wrong.

the uberman is the man who is in relation to the world through puissance.
the superman is in relation to world through power (as in superpowers).

to become a uberman you face your pains, and more importantly, your aversion towards pains.
to be, from the outset, invincible like superman is the opposite, since you do not even know pain.
superman is always about being utter good versus uber evil, so this does not escape the Manichean perspective on life.
The uberman does not hide the world, so it is said that he is monstrous, where you have heterogeneity after you choose to cling to some dichotomies and think that you can try to separate what you think is good from what you see as bad.

superman has instantaneous power on the world, on others.

the puissance of the uberman is NOT MEANT to be exercised on others. the will to power is NOT a will to dominate others (like the one of the hedonist).

>>7803947
>>7803947
>>
>Why? How could an ubermencsh not be hedonist?

the problem of the hedonist is that he despises his life, to the point of constantly transforming his life.
the uberman cannot despise life. The eternal return is the criterion to discriminate amongst people.

You must love life, to the point of desiring the eternal return.

The problem of the hedonist is that he thrives on excitements (his or the ones of others) (when he has the means), or he is averse to pains, to the points of spending his days to get the means to be a successful hedonist (without thinking that the lassitude is integral to hedonism. The day that you bear the lassitude, the day where you bear the lack of excitement, is the day where you know that hedonism is a misery).
this refusal of the eternal return is what we have been having in the various liberal humanismS, for a few centuries.

the hedonist is the last man. last men want to be satisfied (inside their hedonistic perspective) AND for a few, to be satisfied of equal manners.
