I actually don't write poetry, because I know I'd be bad at it.

Some people on this board need to take the fucking hint.

Hell, I'm 18.5k words into a book idea and I'm considering giving that up too; mainly because I'm writing the sort of book I'd like to read, and I suspect (from /lit/'s critique) that my style is too formal (à la High Fantasy).

Don't persist in anything you're shit at.

yeah, alright and I suspect you'll go down in musical history

Why do you think we're not published?
though, granted, there are published poets even worse than the people on here

Things like other things, and very emotions
Now run-on sentence because big emotions
In my heart and soul and being and heart. Things.
More things. A lot of many things in here.

They make me feel bad but good at same time
Like a thing that makes you feel good and bad.
Something something something then rhyme
Then imagery and feeling bad.

Please critique, thanks.

I feel like if I were to ever write poetry I'd do it just for myself. I assume a fair few people in the poetry critique threads write poetry simply to express themselves with minimal intention of being published. They share it out of curiosity and to improve. Should they stop writing poetry because a few /lit/izens call it out as shit (ie 'taking the hint')? Of course not, that's ridiculous.

The poetry of /lit/ is empty because we don't understand poetry's purpose

There's an old quote: "A writer is only as good as his readers." Most adults in the USA can only read at an 8th grade level. You do the math.

I used to work with a kid, fresh off uni, who wrote poetry. More precisely, fucking sonnets. From time to time he would take out this notebook and then ask us for some words rhyming with whatever. Completely mechanical writing, I don't think he even knew the first thing about metre, he only cared about lines and rhymes.
Why do such people exist.
