Shit is lit.
Ive heard its a very difficult book, really hard to read at first
>>
>>7731312
You never know when one of the characters is going off on a 4-5 page tangent so it can get a bit confusing. I have a notebook I wrote in whenever a new character appeared to help keep track off everyone. Also, don't expect to get every reference in the novel.

A lot of fun. I think the best advice I can give is to keep the opening epigraph in mind.
>>
>>7731445
>easy
>globalized
>huge amount of literature written in English
>science
>easy to google information about translations
I really mean it. If you're posting here the you can start reading in English and increase your vocabulary. There's no excuse for not doing it and it's the most important language to learn. I'm a Spanish speaker by the way.
>>
would it be better to read this before or after AtD and M&D?
>>
I just started it too. The first 2 pages went over my head. What does
>developing through those emptying days brilliant and deep, especially at dawn, with blue shadows to seal its passage, to try to bring events to Absolute Zero
mean? Its like the second page.
>>
>>7732691
The general pynchon order I've seen posted around here a lot is: V, crying of lot 49, GR, then the others
>>
>>7732791
my library doesn't have V or Lot 49, so I'm trying to make the best out of what I have to work with
>>
its just 200 pages of scat fetish towards the end. They just start shoveling shit into each others mouths while mutually jerking off. Worst thing I've probably ever read.

>not reading books exclusively in Mandarin
it's like you faggots don't wanna keep up with the new world
>>
>>7732820
I heard the scat thing was just a brief passage, not 200 pages. what the fuck
>>
>>7732711
well what do you think it means?
>>
>>7732852
its literally 1-2 pages, dont listen to that guy

It has the hottest paedo scene in literature. The rest is shit.

so that's why Pynchon gets so much acclaim: he can literally write about eating shit and still make it good, make you enjoy it and want to read more. Evil bastard
>>
>>7732931
Fucking disgusting.
>>
>>7731472
He does. I subscribe to Stirner and try to avoid spooks fucking up my life, even if I haven't ever seen let alone read that.

I'm never buying a book where a guy talks about eating shit like it's black dude face fucking him. I'm sorry that's just fucking terrible.

I dont know. It sounds like a metaphor for some historical event but I dont know what it is.

You speak english and it's written originally in english. Why are you not reading it in english?

Is Mason & Dixon worth a read?

Picked it up in library and while it seems quite vivid and interesting, the arbitrarily capitalization patterns were odd.
>>
>>7733529
come, my friend, come read Moby Dick with me. I'm gonna read Rabelais later, after that, some Gaddis, and I'm going to settle into some Orlando Furioso, then some comfy comfy Cervantes. Join me, my friend. No need to worry about this one author. There are plenty others.. come, my friend. come.

kek, skip it then.

oh, and I forgot to mention, a little bit of The Journey West for a nice and fun read. trust me, anon, you can enjoy patrish stuff without forcing yourself to read absolute trash.
>>
>>7731312
you should expect to be disappointed, and expect to realize that there is no universally appealing novel. you probably won't like it.
>>
>>7735030
I found GR too annoying to be enjoyable. Someone being really excited about something and I just did not feel the same.
>>
>>7733876
I actually wish there was more of that. How can you not want to keep reading?
>>
>>7732931
So is Pynchon actually into this or did he just do it as a joke?
>>
A bunch of gibberish interpreted as meaningful in the same way javkson pollucks art is

literature can be dense and fulfilling without being crap. pynchon is for bragging rights. even Ulysses is enjoyable in comparison. GR gave me the impression of just being amped up sci-fi. no question that the guy is brilliant, but who really aspires to be him? who is truly influenced by him? DFW? we've all seen what happened with that loser.
>>
>>7735124
Something to think about : Why would Pudding prefer humiliation to what he endures outside this room? This may answer your question, but you need to read the book to get the context. Superficially, the passage is quite disgusting, but taking something like this at face value is the easy way out.
