Do German Idealist aesthetics have any applicability for literary criticism?
Go read Kant and then see for yourself!

poststructuralism is its closest relative
-autonomous value as opposed to heteronomous mimesis or paedagogic utility (platonism, marxism)
-focus on subjective impression of the "consumer" as opposed to artistic intent
it also helps that most german idealists saw literature and poetry as highest artforms while neitzsche, schopenhauer or adorno favored music

Even with all the theories of genius?

yes, the genius of idealism was still more like a discoverer or vessel. a special skill, but not a real creator like in nietzsche's aesthetics.

>Adorno
Only Americans see him as good

pic made me laugh, that's exactly the look I envisioned him to have as I read Beyond Good and Evil and imagined him writing it

>autonomy
>poststructuralism
I'd like to know what poststructuralism you're reading because autonomy seems fucked for Marxists, Derrida, Lacan, and Butler.
