What does /lit/ think of Felisberto Hernández?
Muebles el Canario is GOAT

I don't quite know what to make of him. Take a thing like Nadie encendía las lámparas. What the hell is it? Is it even a story? A dream? A prose poem? And yet there's something attractive about his writing.

He's enigmatic to the point of incomprehensibility. He leaves me legitimately dumbfounded. He's not as straight-forward and pessimistic as Onetti, but nowhere near as erudite or dry as Borges or Arreola (Arreola is, admittedly, pretty wry and fanciful, but his fantasies take on a very dark turn very early). I think he has a bit of Walser in him, but he's unique in his vision. I admire and cherish his works.
