You know, I'm pretty sure that if you were to investigate/ask basically any major religious organization, they could point you toward living expositors of the tenets and philosophy of their religion (people a literary step up from "preachers"), and people who are versed in the arguments, having written books and commentaries on same. These, too, are theologians.
If we are honest, this would include newer religions/cults. But if you just really want Muh History or to read an college-system-vetted academic, consult the rest of this thread I guess.

You don't need any books on contemporary theology. God finished everything you need 2000 years ago, in the Bible.
