I'm about halfway through this and although I enjoy it quite a bit (it reminds me of acid trips) the 30+ page descriptions of gay sex got a little old after ten pages

Its all pretty neat if you're gay and like acid, though

Welcome to burroughs.

The gayest acid trip you'll go on.

It makes me want to shoot my wife.

Early one mornin' while makin' the rounds

I love the book so far as an illustration of power dynamics and as some weird absurd satire of the american mindset of the era it was written it

cover looks like a title card to a spongebob episode tbqph senpai

Good call. WSB is kind if obsessed with power structures, its a central theme. "Death needs time for the things it kills to grow in"
>>
>tfw prof taught this in cold war class
>tfw get to listen to prof read gay sex passages out loud in a v serious voice
it was the best
>>
Nova Express (and the trilogy to which it belongs) is better and less gay than that sodomite shit.

Whats the absolute best way to get into Burroughs and how would you describe his prose in a few words?
>>
>>7705829
sounds like you're a faggot
>>

just gonna quote some at you

"I was standing outside myself trying to stop those hangings with ghost fingers... I am a ghost wanting what every ghost wants-a body-after the Long Time moving through odorless alleys of space where no life is, only the colorless no smell of death...Nobody can breath and smell it through pink convolutions of gristle laced with crystal snot, time shit and black blood filters of flesh"

>how would you describe his prose in a few words?

faggot on an acid trip just slopping random phrases onto a page
>>

Read Junky. Its a real story. Then maybe Ticket That Exploded, Nova Express, Wild Boys. Naked Lunch.. Then Cities of Red Night.
His style is like if you cut up a bunch of magazine articles, science books, gay porn , science fiction, crime stories and psychedelic poetry , threw it all up in the air and pasted it back together. Not for everybody. He was a huge druggie his whole life and had a very cynical outlook.

Took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down

Definitely read junkie first. Not only is it good, it will help you familiarize yourself with some of the terminology from that era and scene and it is a good introduction to his prose as it kinda holds onto the thread more that his later works.

This thread's been very informative and encouraging. I've read Wild Boys and Naked Lunch, but always wanted to tackle the Trilogy.

I'll read Junky first, though.

fucking THIS.

so many children today shit on anything that was written more than half an hour ago because they are unable to imagine the time a book was written in.
