Take notes while reading or at least be thinking while reading. At the very least underline/highlight interesting stuff or things that you think might lead somewhere.
Read things as many times as possible.

Read a bit carefully/closely. don't skim over text. take notes or pause and think about what you've read if the material is dense.
In general, focus a bit more and read with more attention.
