NABAKOV IS THE BEST AUTHOR, PERIOD
IF YOU HAVENT READ ADA AND UNDERSTOOD IT YOU ARE BANNED FROM /LIT/ FOR A MONTH
ENJOY FAGS
"Ada, our ardors and arbors"
Sometimes I think the average post quality has declined sharply, other times I presume I'm simply idealizing the fun times I had here before leaving for a year.

In 21 years I've never looked at his earring and actually had it register mentally.
What the hell?
>>7698869
I took a break for 2014 and most of 2015 and I can assure you the board is as shit as ever
The funniest thing is that in 18 months there was absolutely zero evolution of discussion. The exact same arguments about the exact same authors. So there is nothing new under the sun

why're you shouting though, bro/sis?

4chan has changed much since the start of the 2010s.

I'd say there's been a slight dip since our top 100 reached the front of imgur, but that's bretty much gone. The biggest decline in post quality I noticed was between 2011 and 2012. I stopped visiting 4chan for the most part because I was busy as a freshman in college. Before there was plenty of shitposting and morons, but after I noticed two main differences.
1) The list of books discussed had gotten smaller. The more peripheral meme books were almost entirely undiscussed, which continued to the point that former memes now appear in the occasional threads dedicated to books /lit/ never seems to discuss.
2) A decline of discourse. I checked the archives to confirm this, and it was true. In the span of the year discussion of books was coming to be increasingly surface level. Fewer lengthy and thought out posts were showing up. This continued also, until we got to the point where we are today. Arguments were rarely left at "this is shit." Hell, I even cribbed some ideas from posts for papers I've presented at the English honors frat's convention.
I'm not saying the board was ever perfect, but it certainly is worse.I actually kind of miss sunhawk.
not even in the top 3 russian authors

Now is the winter of our discontent...
>>7699008
I don't include philosophy threads in this because they seem to have fared better than the board as a whole. Sometimes I wonder if the better posters of /lit/ transcended fiction and began to delve more deeply into philosophy, gradually leaving the board as a whole for their containment threads.
>>7699024
>transcend fiction
I think that if you truly "transcend fiction," you're no longer really what most people consider "human" in any meaningful sense. I suppose I'm just being pedantic, but you should still elaborate
>>7699008
>A decline of discourse
I've been here on and off since 2011, and I've found that the longer I'm here each time, the more my posts tend to shrink down; writing longer stuff just feels like a pointless chore when it's most likely to end up with some 'lol sucks' kind of reply.
>>7699028
I was just making a passing guess at why the /phil/ threads stayed at a higher quality than the rest of the board, it wasn't a serious thought. Maybe they didn't transcend the genre, but got tired of all of the shitposting at large on the board and saw philosophy threads as a relative safe space.
>>7698858
>NABAKOV
What's wrong with fucking yanks. God I swear
Why can't you niggers write Nabokov correctly
>>7699038
Yea, most of the shitposters seem to be middle/high-school kiddies beholden to scientism, so philosophy threads are the safe bet

>lit sucks now: the thread
Instead of complaining, taking breaks, or cluttering up threads with your contempt, why don't you just fix the problem by putting people in their place, making better threads, and generally being a better person? Talking about the fact that imgur and reddit has ruined this board isn't going to weed out the normies and make discussion better, it's just going to make /lit/ grow more and more stagnant than it already has.
>>7699065
>implying we're shitting up a good thread
>implying this thread isn't worth shitting up with our bitching
>implying I don't still try to make decent posts in other threads
>implying it isn't better to shit up a garbage thread than start a thread dedicated solely to our griping
>implying I don't make better threads than this shit
Get fucked.
