It's opaque as all hell.

But that's the best part

See the page in the penultimate chapter when it lists everything Bloom finds interesting about water
>>

this

i thought that was the best and most enjoyable part of the book

It ends. No but really probably my only complaint is that I really like JR as a character and wish he had a bit more presence than he does.

I just hate the fact that the author wasn't just a brilliant writer, but also a lucky dandy who fucks every woman he wants like the characters of his novels.

Uses 'ash' too often.

You probably know the book.

Once I mentioned "missing women..." I get looks of disgust and people accusing me of hating women.

Hard to find anything I hate about this book. Maybe the long pinball part in the Lyle Bland/Illuminati chapter, just because every time I read the book it seems to drag on forever.
>>
>>7698837
That one paragraph about eating shit, cause it cost the book the Pulitzer
>>
>>7698829
Wait, people think by ignoring the feminicidios they're somehow helping these women? That's about as twisted as it gets
>>
>>7698829
This
>"What is it about?"
>The feminicides of Mexico
>"O-oh okay, anon"
>>
>>7698851
That segment was one of the best parts of the book though. Fuck the Pulitzer.

One girl thought I gained pleasure from reading the descriptions of the mutilated bodies. When I tried to describe the way in which Bolano wrote those segments and the implications (along with my thoughts on the matter) she outright dismissed me and claimed that reading "is for fun, therefore I found women being killed..fun"
I was so upset.

I mean, there are certain things one can only take in small doses if one has any sort of moral feeling. Peter Sotos' "PURE" for instance.

But, if you refuse to look violence in the face, it will stalk the shadows of your conscious mind for all your waking days. People like that are nothing but plebs shackled to the wall of a cave, and they deserve nothing but pity

>the long endnote that's a protracted pastiche of stuffy academic writing
>all the endnotes that dump pharmacological data on you, since it's since come out that some portion of it is wrong or was outdated even in '96
>the fact that the timeline is screwed up (forget the details here, it was a long time ago, but i remember the book said gately was watching the rodney king thing on tv when he was some age, but then another detail indicated he would've been a different age...)

Attempting to reconcile Tolstoy's argument in War and Peace that political and military leaders have no control over forces that move nations and armies, which I find compelling and agree with, with the realities of the World Wars and the Holocaust terrifies and sickens me.

This is mine as well. I usually explain how the three parts connect
>>
>>7696681

my favorite book is 1984 and the chapter where winston reads from the book is so long and boring
>>
>>7698837
The Hansel/Gretal role play was kind of pointless and prolonged and I don't think it contributed very heavily to the tone of the final scene.

this. JR could have been more present, he's just such a goddamn good character.
