Hey there /lit/
I did read the sticky but I'm still not sure where to start. If there's any flowchart or...?
>>
Start with The Story of Philosophy - Bryan Maggee

Then read chronologically, read the main works of the main guys, and specialise further into the guys that interest you (example: if you're interested in Plato, read his complete works and read extra commentaries etc, rather than just reading a few dialogues and moving on).

Use these as supplements to your learning: IEP, SEP, Cambridge Companions, Google Scholar

Use these publishers: Hackett, Cambridge, Oxford

This is pretty helpful thanks.

Have fun being done in 50 years

I didn't mean read every single philosopher, and every single work they produced.

It all depends on the list you choose. Hell, OP could start with Descarte, jump to Hume, go to Kant, then become a Schopenhauer fan and start reading his works and Buddhist texts.

I wasn't being entirely serious. You offered solid advice desu.

Life is a self study in philosophy. Don't spend your life reading this stuffy shit, hit the high points and some of the stoic stuff and stay the fuck away from the pessimists and nihilists downers.

Cheers lad

I've got just the book for you two.

Readings in Classical Chinese Philosophy - Ivanhoe & Van Norden

Has the Tao in full, and another text in full, + large excerpts of other texts with commentary and the likes.

It's great as a start, and will help you find which school most interests you, and helps you build your own study path.

This chart is confusing.

There are no arrows to depict the flow or direction in which to read.

eg, in what order should one read: 'The complete works of Aristotle', 'History of the Peloponnesian War', 'Cambridge Companion to Greek and Roman Theater' and 'Greek epic Fragments' ?

After Starting from "Mythology", What order should one follow?
>>
>>7686207
Doesn't matter as long as it's Greek.
>>
>>7686207
The point is that there is no single order for all the Greek texts, except that you should read Homer ASAP and philosophy last. You can read the drama, history, and minor poetry pretty much whenever you want.
