Which books would you like to see adapted to film?

The Stranger or Journey to the End of the Night would be nice, I think.
>>
Why do people want to see movie adaptations to begin with? What could it possibly add?

I understand if the movie departs from the source material to do something really different, like some do. But if the idea is just to capture the essence of the book.. why not just read the book.
>>
>>7665742
It's just another way to experience something nice, kind of like looking at both a painting and a photograph of the same subject or listening to a poem being recited and reading it.
>>
>>7665742
I guess some books can make a lot of money as movies

Also capturing the essence of a book sounds like a hard task for a director. Would earn them braggin rights

What everyone else said, and also the fact that the movie expands upon and helps to popularize the ideas set forth by the original, hopeful, hopefully well-intended message of a given film and that, more importantly, the overall message, if legitimate—meaning well intended by both director and writer—be not only true and accurate to the original work, but an expansion into fresh space, virgin and vacuous.

A trilogy with each film having a length of about 3 hours.

The first film will end at the part where Ahab is introduced. This film will be 3 hours and 30 minutes long.
The second part is the middle of the book. This film will be almost four hours long, with an interlude.
And then the third film will start just before they find Moby Dick, replaying a little bit of the end of the second film. This film will be 2 and a half - 3 hours long.

The three films will take note of every last detail in the book.
Queequeg cannot be played by a white, needs to be as close to wherever he's from in the book as possible, whilst being a great actor.
Each film will have a budget of up to $500 million to ensure that the sets and things are perfect.
There will be almost no CGI, just for the whale, some chapters that go into anatomy of whales, and maybe the sea. A to-scale ship will be built for the film.
The film will be shot with IMAX cameras.

There will be a three year gap between the first two films, and a four year gap between the second and third.

If I were a multi-billionaire, I'd pay whatever is needed to get this trilogy made.

How the hell would Dano make a good Kid? The Kid is worn and been through a lot, you would be able to recognize him on the street as a hard and weather-beaten man.

Paul Dano is more suited to someone like Alyosha.
>>
>>7666405
Well first and foremost, he's one of the few talented actors who could pass as a mature-looking 15/16 year old

But it would also totally work if the movie utilized the same method as the book and kept the Kid off-screen during the raidings or ambushes, only implying that he's there. You wouldn't even need very good acting skills to pass as the Kid, he's basically a brick wall. Dano is talented enough to bring finesse to it, I think

Anderson directs, chained to Von Trier who is having a psychotic episode and has a loaded gun on his person. Anderson's masterful quirky humour, kept in check by an unhinged Von Trier (to make sure there's a grimdark undertone and shit doesnt get to cutesy).

I always thought Radcliffe would be great in the role of some pissed off secretary / janitor / groundskeeper. There's something tragically impotent about his appearance and demeanour. He's also overly polite, probably well-educated and strikes me at someone who might have control issues and occasionally lashes out. Obviously he'd have to be older.

Dunst is just fucking hot no matter her age. Ofc it'd have to be a young Dunst.

The entire point of Sonya is despite being born into a shit life, and being forced into sinful occupation by her degenerate father, she is still able to redeem the louse that is Raskolnikov out of the goodness of her heart.

So casting a woman known for taking dick up the ass is a bit of an insult I think.

Do you not understand that actors have to assume the role and put themselves in the heads of the characters they play? How the heck could she do that with Sonya? What makes you think she possibly could?

I also have no reason to think Polanksi could wrap his head around the major theme of the work. He might get some things, but he would not get this, he could not comprehend it, it would be like asking someone who's autistic to direct a movie about flirting.

Sonya is a shy cutie, who was forced by circumstances to abandon her innocence. She did not fully embrace the perversion though and it pained her to be a hooker. Deep inside, she still had a little bit of an innocent child in her. It's this mix of innocence and perversion that makes her interesting.

If Sasha Grey did her best to play an innocent girl, she might bring the same mix (though obviously in reverse) to the table just by virtue of her reputation.

Did you get to kiss her?

no

>>7675499
Well, Aphex's SAW2 mostly bored me, while No Pussyfooting was quite interesting and beautiful...

Sluts don't kiss, anon; like Charlie don't surf.

No.

Well, if there's only one person in the world who can't fuck up that character it sure is him.
>>
>>7675541
True. Also too conventionally beautiful. Sonya wasn't supposed to be like that, just a somewhat cute and meek ordinary girl.

I want Michael Jordan cast as Judge Holden

the judge IS John Malkovich. He is the only person with both the charisma and the acting chops to pull off the sheer presence of holden.

I make these sometimes so I can keep track of characters when I'm reading plays with a large cast
here's one I did for "The Servant of Two Masters"

Come on

Johnny Depp is not a good actor. He is the quintessential meme actor. His only decent roles are in films where he was carried by actual good actors (like DiCaprio in Gilbert Grape). Everything else is a costume and a gimmick.

just because he is big doesn't mean he isn't a good actor
>>
>>7677010
That's not a bad idea actually
>>
>>7677071
I never said that. Him being a bad actor is why he isn't a good actor.
He has yet to prove that he is great.

"no"
>>
>>7677131
ehh. He was doing a very good Thompson impression but is that really great acting? I mean it wasn't a bad performance, I just don't think he's earned the right to be called a good/great actor.

The Stand by Stephen King is my favorite book and is apparently being adapted to a miniseries and a movie but might be in production hell, I don't actually know. Anyway...

Stu: Matthew McConaughey
Randall Flagg: Christain Bale
Frannie: Jennifer Lawrence - or any female actor in that age range
Nick Andros: Maybe a young JGL, but he's getting up there. I've heard the kid from Whiplash is good
Larry Underwood: A young RDJ
Tom Cullen: ?
Glen Bateman: Tom Hanks
Susan Stern: Amy Adams
Nadine:?
Lloyd: Adam Driver
Trashcan Man: ?

>>7677197
Charlie Day as trashcan man and Danny DeVito as the Elvis guy he meets on the road
