What's a word for when someone in a senior or more qualified position tolerates or reacts encouragingly towards someone else in an inferior or less knowledgable position?

Example: A child says he wants to fly to the moon and his mother nods and says "what a great idea!"

His desire is treated in a ________ way?

Superficially doesn't really say what I'm trying to say here.

Not what I'm looking for. It's more of a patronizing and superficial enthusiasm.

The first two fit but I had considered them already. I thought there may be some obscure but more specific word that I could use.
>>

Consider using two or more well known words instead of one obscure one

More people will understand you

Don't look for specific words to fit a situation because you're just going to use them incorrectly or obtrusively. Expand your vocabulary as a whole and you'll use them naturally without even realising.

Ok. Advice taken. I'm not trying to be obscure or clever, I just felt there was a word I wasn't remembering.

'pardonable enthusiasm' of a child to catch the moon.

I guess you could say the mother has a 'knowing' air about her. It doesn't really fit the sentence, but it's a suggestion.

OP here. Thank you all for the suggestions! I've decided which word to use now. Much appreciated.

This is a tricky kind of question. I like it.

Empty faith, false hope, disingenuity.

It's hard to get the encouraging, but faceted nature in one word...

False encouragement...

Platitudinal? I didn't actually know that was a word until now. I like that one. It's got a nice sound to it.
