Revolt! Revolt!

It's about a Russian antique dealer turned alcoholic and revolutionary when he gets fed up with Russian version of big brother. I hope to incorporate various elements of 1984, but with less of Winston being a pussified cry baby and actual subversion and direct conflict against the establishment. I've even created the perfect drink for the novel which takes place primarily in Moscow. It will be called V, just like the idea of victory gin in 1984 but instead it will be Vodka.

I have not started this plot yet, it will probably be shit and I'll probably never start it but god damn do I like to drink alcohol, wallow in my own misery and fantasize about writing like Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy (won't happen).

Why does everyone on this board jack off to Russia and wish they were Russian like the weebs on /a/ wish they were Japanese?
>>
>>7655330

Because Russians have a great history. I won't lie, I am a bit of a russophile. I can try to justify it in a way because half of my family actually comes from Eastern Europe and lived under the Iron Curtain, and I speak some Slavic languages but hell, that doesn't work. Russia has an incredible history. Collectively, the Russian people have endured so much hardship and torture and their culture has evolved and molded to adapt to these facts. This is reflected so well in their writings.

Foxes in the Night

It's set in the Fox Islands of Maine, wrote in a very over the top purple prose style, and is relatively mysterious in terms of detail. Basically the longer you read the more you start to understand what is going on, it doesn't lay everything right out in front of you from the get-go.
Think of the story/setting itself as kind of Alex Cross-ish.

its about a 22 year old philosophy graduate from a mediocre university who becomes a roofer, and falls off of the roof to his death. There's a ton of shit in between those two events but i haven't completely made up my mind.
>>
>>7661072
it's set in the future where everyone is connected digitally but disconnected emotionally and friends you pretend to have are considered greater than people that actually care about you (of which there are very few) and inversely the person you pretend to be is more important than the person that you are. Every character is an overly sensitive woman though some women have penises and their lives are constructed around the ideal of a holy trinity of jealousy, partiality and elitism. And there's no fat girls.

>>
>>7661186
it might be OK. You're hating it only because you're spending a lot of time in the universe, but you have to consider the impact it makes on first glance.
>What's the book about? What's your target demo?
>>
>>7661207
The story is about a lawyer in an import firm's legal department that specialises in EU commodity import laws. He finds it hard to adjust to a fast-changing society and generally romanticises the past. It causes him to be disconnected from his colleagues and most people in general, and he can only find some sense of belonging with his close group of friends, where they heavily enable each other to live parallel to society, pretend old values are still alive and convince themselves that they are in fact right and all other people have to be inferior, slowly making them all spiral into a complete isolation from society. The main person gets into increasingly more trouble at his job, which he hates but he recognises that he needs it to keep up his way of living and that unemployment would make him unhireable and take away his only means of managing himself. He has to choose how much of himself he can fake in order to pass as normal and how that rots everything he conders himself to be.

If that makes any sense at all. I don't have an ending yet. I already know it won't be a happy ending, but I don't want to cop out and end it with his suicide or alcoholism or something.
>>
>>7661207
I don't really have a target demo, but I feel the story (if it ever gets finished in a publishable form, which is by no means self-evident, of course) would appeal to a large group of people who have seen their country/countries change into something unrecognisable but see many others adapting, whilst they themselves don't want to adapt. So that would be the people who generally dislike immigration and the EU. Idk, really, it might be the stupidest story ever but I think it would somehow portray (in condensed form) the feeling that a lot of Europeans have
