I'm Canadian and my uncle lived in Canada until he was 40, then he went and lived in Britain for four years. When he came back, everyone in their family had gained somewhat of an English accent (and, funny enough, they didn't even know they had it).
Eliot moved to London in 1914 and lived there for the next 51 years of his life. The recordings of his voice date from the 40s and later. He had been living in London for about thirty years.
His "fake" or "trans-atlantic" accent, whatever you want to call it, was likely a mix of his American accent which he never entirely lost, and the English accent which he picked up while he lived in England.
