Throw out The Familiar and almost that entire top shelf and you have some okay entry level books.
Wait,

This is fucking embarrassing lmao. Do you browse this board everyday and only buy books that are talked about on here?

>>
>>7632989
I was honestly just curious as to why anon would have a book about Islamic finance, or why there's such a thing as Islamic finance in the first place.
>>
>>7632994
islamic law bans risk and usury, both of which are the cornerstones of the modern financial/banking system. collecting interest would fall under this. as such, finance in islam countries have a lot of weird workarounds and regulations and stipulations to make them halal. for example there's a specific type of bond, sukuk, that plays with ownership and intermediaries to make it compliant.

There was a guy here, I think he was from Russia or Eastern Europe, and could not afford shipping to his country so he printed pdfs out and stapled them together. Pretty crappy looking.

You might try something like coptic stitch but I've never done it and something tells me ordinary printer paper wouldn't be that nice to spend a long time reading. Wouldn't it be hard on the fingers? It might be less effort in the long run just to shell out for a paperback.

He picks strange parts of his career to talk about it but honestly he knows as well as we do that the historians have more to write about his golden period than he does. It's pretty interesting, he takes a bunch of time to tell us about producing Oh Mercy with Daniel Lanois and goes really in depth about what his life was like when be first experienced New York. It doesn't cover any of the famous/seminal moments in his career but it should give you a pretty good idea of where his head is with regard to culture and his tastes especially.

Why do you? You assume that everyone is your age, your level and is well, you. This could be the best they could afford, be able to understand, just started out, learned to read a year ago. You just don't know, but you like to denigrate other people because it makes you feel bigger "look someone else hasn't come up to my presumed standard", why complain someone else is trying? Fucking child.

Serious question:

Does anyone have folio edition books? Theyre like twice the cost but I wonder if its worth it, the greater books are even more expensive

Like 500$ for the fucking bible? I can't imagine how they could justify it, but I'm also really drawn to getting them. I love leather or ivory books and gold trim.
>>
>>7642963
they;re fine.

quality wise they're prob the best paper books you could buy. whether or not that's "worth it" to you is entirely your decision. they're luxury goods, you're not buying for a 1:1 exchange of price for quality. there's a substantial markup/diminishing marginal returns aspects to it.
>>
>>7635151
Holy fuck I'm rock hard. How expensive was all that SENPAI? If those top right editions are whatvi think they're each well over 80-100 each right?

What is it with people taking photos upside down or sideways?

Now, I'm assuming that the ones which are either upside or sideways and are also 3264x2448 in resolution are taken from iPhones, since that's the same resolution I get from my pictures.

How do you guys post your pictures? Do you not plug your phone into your computer or use iCloud or something to import the pictures from the phone to the hard drive? And then do you not you take the time to open the images in windows photo viewer to see the orientation of the image, and if it's upside down or sideways, you just rotate them with the click of a button or two.

I mean, fuck, how hard can it be?
>>
>>7635558

Hello, anonymous. I would like for you to know that you share a practice in common with my father. Both you and my father are incorrect in this common practice of yours.

Like you, my father maintains his very large bookshelf by setting the spines flush with the shelf. This is incorrect; rather, appropriate book storage requires the books to be flush with the back wall of whatever shelving solution they are contained in. The reason why this is so is because then the books are "pushed in" as far as they can go, and are consequently easily "fixed" if you or someone else should push them or pull them off-kilter. In your system, you have to pull the books out in a goofy way using both hands in order to "present a face", which although it might look nice, is not the primary purpose of having a library. The primary purpose of having a library is to have hard copy to one's self, and the back-wall solution is arguably (though admittedly not necessarily) more aesthetic.

Furthermore, when you're short on shelf/counter space, it provides a little place to put things. No, I'm not talking about plebeian figurines, stuffies or tchotchkies. Let the women decorate with those. I'm talking about a temporary spot for immediate stuff. Lately I've been putting my keys on my shelves sometimes, as well as a few oranges before they turn. The odd beer bottle makes its way there before I deal with them. As I check just now, the only things are few Canadian quarters I need to get rid of.

Furthermore, dusting is a bit easier; you can just swiff out the fronts on a spot sweep when you're in the mood.

Glad you like it, anon. Have a picture of a cat.

The Everyman's Library books were all between $20 and $40, with the War & Peace boxset running about $50, if I remember correctly. Same with the Modern library stuff.
The various paperbacks were all pretty cheap, and the children's books were from my childhood.

The most expensive editions were the Library of America volumes (each were about $40). The Easton Press leather bounds were picked up used, mostly, with prices around $30 each (though, some as low as $10, and one around $80). In fact, a good 50% of everything on those shelves are used.
My biggest investment was the copy of Atlas Shrugged on the far left. It's a first edition that I paid roughly $300 for.

That's a bad practice as well. While it is true that book should not be that close to the edge of the shelf, it is better for books to have some flux of air in the back.
The books should not be at the front nor the back or the shelf, but in the middle, leaving a space both behind and in front of the books when possible.

>Surprised to see conservative books on /lit/?
Not surprised to see conservative books, just baffled that you would read so many books on the same subject. Judging by the titles they don't even seen to be academic in nature, just political thoughts regurgitated through all your books.

>>

Hogg is very enjoyable but it's more a less an introduction to conservatism. If you imagine Scruton's books but written in the 1940s, that's what it is. I'd recommend it highly if you like that kind of thing anyway.

Schmitt and de Maistre are next on my list in terms of conservative authors, but right now I'm caught up reading a lot of history lit.
