Umberto Eco's "History of Beauty" and "On Ugliness" are both really cool books. They're like encyclopedias or anthologies of the two topics. Eco does brief introductions to chapters, but then the chapters themselves are just made up of excerpts from famous books, speeches, artworks, photos, etc. Really great to browse, but also good as a point of refrence for finding new things to read.

I can't name a specific book or dialogue, but I'm positive that Socrates discusses his own ugliness in one or more of Plato's dialogues.
