I want to learn all about Communism and Socialism.

What's a good reading order? I don't know what to read after the Communist Manifesto.

Engineers of the Soul
It's a study of soviet literature and engineering project. What more could a man want?

Capital, for the underpinning rationale of the whole communist project. Then Lenin's Imperialism the Highest Stage of Capitalism and The State and Revolution, which are both still full of lots of really interesting and intelligent theory. I'd also recommend Zizek's book on Lenin, Revolution at the Gates. After Marx, Engels and Lenin you're best served next by disregarding Soviet theory and moving onto Mao. On Practice and Contradiction is the most valuable Maoist text, but it also doesn't hurt to try Baidou's writing on the Cultural Revolution. That would give you an overview of the most useful ideas in Marxism from 1848 to now.

I'd also recommend trying to find some stuff about modern China, but not a lot of it is translated because westerners don't take post-Mao Chinese ideology seriously, seeing it as an excuse for capitalism. Whether it is or not, they take it seriously, and seeing the size and influence of China today you wouldn't be badly served by doing some digging.

China, a "socialist country" that

>considers capitalism to be socialism
>shoots off its imperalist jizz all across Southeast Asia and Africa
>is a massive corporate state where corporations (and monopoly-finance capital) hold immense power
>launched mass privatization reforms backed by the West and continues to repress the New Left who attempt to remedy the poverty that consumes the country
>undergoes massive repression upon not just liberal dissidents but also upon the rising labour opposition (!) and the New Left
>where labour has the worst conditions in the world, second only to China's imperialist protectorates
>chastises anyone who revitalizes or reiterates the language of the Cultural Revolution (ie the labour opposition) is accused of trying to resurrect the politics of the Cultural Revolution or attacked as being "Maoist" or "New Left" (the equivalent of being accused of being a Communist)
>where Confusionism and other reactionary doctrines are being revitalized by the conservative elite
>upholds the ideal of the "harmonious society" a conservative ideal where all social antagonisms that consume class society are simply waved off

Revisionist pls

>implying Lenin didn't say that "without foreign capital to help develop our economy, the latter's quick revitalisation is inconcievable."
>implying the development of the productive forces via interaction with the capitalist world isn't necessary before the construction of a socialist mode of economics can take place
>implying this doesn't justify the repression of any forces, liberal or leftist, that impede development
>implying the Party doesn't stress Marxism as the guiding force of its development these days
>implying that the dynamics of class struggle under bourgeois dictatorship apply to a society where the state controls the bourgeois rather than being controlled by it

Don't you have a few famines to go deny, leftist?

Normally what happens is there's no good neutral starting material around for politics because everyone's got some stake in it and will rec you want they think will sell you on their ideology

Given that I live and work in China and have read pretty much every book there is in existence on them, and that I have several friends who are actually in the CCP, I think I can lay claim to a better understanding of it than the average /lit/ anon.

How much do you wanna read? You'll be in need of historical studies to better understand the philosophical writings, it didn't develop in a vacuum.
