I personally read on bed all my life, but I feel uncomfortable when reading during the day, and that happens a lot. How do you read for hours while sitting? I found the positions of my legs, that's where I place the book to be to most troublesome.
Tell me how did you improve your comfort while reading.
I wish I could read anywhere like in a moving vehicle for example but I get sick in the stomach . I prefer to read laying down in complete silence. But I've trained myself to read with my girlfriend in the same room watching retarded television shows

I have big-ass solid oak-framed chair with a cushion and it's comfy as fuq. It's my main reading chair, but my nearest lamp isn't strong enough for after-dark reading (I can read fine, but my eyes start to hurt after a while). Just bought a nice little clip-on reading light (not some cheap shit, mind you) and I'm much more comfortable now.

Usually I'll make a small fire outside, get my dog, and just sit on a log I've cut whilst reading and drinking tea.
If it's cold or bad weather, I'll hike out to my small cabin (that I built) with my dog and some overnight supplies (if necessary) and just read in it. Make a fire in the wood stove, lie down on my makeshift bed with my dog either on the ground or in the bed, and just read. I'll sit on the bed so I can drink or snack too.

I live in the Vancouver, BC area and recently I heard that [name redacted] dispensary is opening up several new stores; and so seeing that I'm thoroughly self-taught in cannabis botany, cultivation, history, sociology, etc. I sent them a killer cover letter and resume laying all these things out for them, and so I think I have a decent chance of getting the job. They told me they'd phone me back within a few weeks no matter what the outcome is, but I still make it my responsibility to phone them at least once a week, just to bug them. Because my second floor has 45 degree walls and I think it makes for a more cozy reading enviroment. The rest of my house is normal, but the 2nd floor's angle ceiling makes it more of a "nook".
The only problem this poses is that all of my previous bookcases from the first floor were too tall and now have nowhere to be. So all of the books I read just started stacking up on the floor. The thing in the wall is a stuffed hole. It is literally a 15cm hole in the wall drilled originally for ventilation use, but has become redundant. So until I pull myself together and plaster it up, stuffing it with an old towel will do.

i write my own novels without regard to grammar, then send them off to an editor. once i get the final copy, i read it. that's how i read, just about a hundred novels, where i'm the author.

It's narrated in Danish, but the work speaks for itself. Take for example the cord weaving part; It looks like a standard square weave, but in fact the seat is 12cm wider in the front than the back, but the weave still has to be symmetrical, so you have to make 18 extra corners on every front corner using a complex technique. This is so hard that currently there are only two cord weavers in Denmark allowed to handle the Peacock chair weaving, namely Knud and Leif in the video. It takes around three hours per seat, and 170 meters of cord. The holes for the pegs used to be drilled by hand, but the woodworkers found it so tedious that they refused to do it, as it would take hours for every seat, and if the holes weren't just right, the pegs would not fit, so they opted to invest in a cnc drill. Still, the chair is so time consuming and tedious to make, they only produce 70 chairs per year and only to order.
It's not too late to start woodworking again, if that's what you really want.

It's a shame that the Eames chair is so much more known than a lot of Danish stuff. I've talked to so many people that consider it the "holy grail" of chairs. The Eames Chair is uncomfortable. It does not support the head at all and it arches your back to a very poor position. The armrests are too short. The leather feels cheap to the touch and the rest is just foam and shell veneer. It costs three times as much as it should. Rubbish. You could pick any chair ever designed by Hans J. Wegner and it would blow the Eames chair out of the water. You know what you will never see on Wegner furniture? Screws and bolts and stickers.

Yes, you are exactly right. That photo showcases exactly what is wrong the the Eames chair. It pitches you too far back with no head support, and your back is crumpled together.
I've sat in egg chairs many times, never been impressed. They are made for short/Asian people. It's also twice as expensive as it should be. The price, like the Eames chair, is a result of icon recognition.
The Egg chair, while a classic icon of modern Danish furniture, is not a comfortable chair.
How poor is poor? I've spent hours and hours reading in wishbone chairs. You can both sit upright and in lounge position in them. You can get a wishbone chair for 600 bucks and you'll have it for life (if you get one that isn't painted, but natural soaped or oiled wood). If you already got a coffee table to prop your legs up if desired, you'd be all set.

Books. I have many books on furniture design and Scandinavian design. I have a whole book about nothing but Wegner. Also just going out to places where they stock the actual furniture and try it out, studying it, finding out what works and what doesn't, speaking to the elder salesmen who have handled the furniture for years and how it has changed over time. I took advanced woodworking courses years ago and the guy who was teaching was a former PP-Moebler craftsman. He always spent time explaining which methods are the best and how nobody other than a select few Danish workshops still use them as they are too expensive and time consuming. But in the end, the Danish stuff lasts. You can take a fifty year old PP-19 lounge chair, strip the fabric/leather and re-do it with new and the chair will be like it was made yesterday. That's one of the reasons Wegner pretty much never used screws in his constructions. They fall apart.

If you are willing to invest that amount into a chair, there is nothing better than the Wegner Butterfly chair. Get it in natural wood finish with Hallingdal 65 wool fabric and you will have it for life. Sleek, well made, exceptionally comfortable. My desk chair is a mid-nineties green leather Thonet desk chair. Discontinued, and there are no pics available of it online for some strange reason. I'm considering having the leather stripped and getting it redone in Hallingdal 65. The leather on the armrests is starting to wear thin.
It looks a bit like pic related, but olive green and with thicker back and seat as well as leather on the armrests.

250USD isn't enough for the wool fabric alone. Kvadrat Hallingdal 65 costs around 100USD per meter, and you need at least five meters minimum. The Danish beech wood used for the chair is between 150 and 200 years old. Very, very expensive wood. Then there is the time it actually takes to make the chair, which is several days with Danish pay. The steel legs are hand made and hand polished in Denmark, which is also an expensive process.
Production costs total for the chair will probably amount to 40-50% of the sale price, which is actually insanely high.

No, I think it's fair enough. It's a natural response to be very critical about expensive products. And if you aren't familiar with how they are produced and what goes into them, of course you are going to be skeptical. I know the chair is stupid expensive for 99.99% of people, but I happen to have a huge interest in the history and the production methods behind it. I seriously don't understand the attitude people have toward expensive goods. When you buy expensive craft goods you are supporting skilled artisans who are apparently undervalued and under appreciated. I find it difficult to read in my room because I'm secretly a pleb who lacks the discipline to stay away from my laptop/tablet/phone, and I always get distracted. I'm looking for somewhere new to read. Ideally I'd go somewhere like a quiet coffee shop, but I'm literally too poor to buy 2-3 mugs of coffee each day.
Anyone know of any similar but cheaper alternatives? If anyone has the same problem, what was your solution?
