Came here to post this.
Why are Spanish writers so terrible except for Borges? I've read about 50 of them at this point, and I strongly regret that time lost
>>
>>7602956
Because they're all living in Cervantes' Shadow. Goethe did the same thing to German writers in the 19th century.
>>
>>7602956
wew
The Latin American literary tradition is very different to the Spanish tradition
>>
A Poet in New York
then all that muh duende crap. Never checked out his plays.
>>
>>7602956
You are probably too uneducated to have read good Spanish writers. Spanish literature is among the best literature in the world.
>>
>>7602994
Latin America is what I'm mainly talking about. Never read a Latin American novel I didn't want to hurl against the wall, that wasn't a total slog.
Cortezar, Lispector, Neruda, Marquez, Neruda, Puig, all shit. Reccomend me someone my brain will like.

Unamuno was not bad of we talk about Spain. But yeah, Spain is a fucking shithole from every perspective desu. When it comes to literature, I guess the main reason is dumb provincialism because we wuz empire, we wuz cervantes and muh most spoken language so no one fucking cares about foreign authors
>>
>>7603038
Did you try them short stories by Cortazar? I actually enjoyed them. You should also check something by Roberto Arlt.
>>
>>7603050
At this point I'm only "checking out" spanish books if you can give me a title and tell you why it moved you or changed your life. After Hopscotch I have little to no patience for those people
>>
>>7603055

Se te ve enterado.

Check some of Arlt's short stories or Seven Madmen. Last one is kinda similar to Demons by Dosto (I read Arlt before Demoms). It's fine, like pre-existentialism and with technophile pseudo-fascists instead of nihilists. If you wanted to know more about Stavrogin from Demons, the main character can be pretty similar, but he ain't the cold charming byronesque motherfucker Stavrogin is, he's pityful. If you liked Demons and it has been a long time since you read it, and you're a nerd about secret societies and shit, Seven Madmen (and its sequel "Flamethrowers") could be funny

This has been memed a lot, might be my last shot before I conclude people that speak Spanish can't write lit that translates well to a native English brain
>>

You didn't like Neruda?

Whats it like to have no feelings, anon?

You're just a try-hard hack.

Have you considered that maybe you just don't like reading?

Read Blood Wedding. He's a good writer. Don't listen to the memes.
